Aiding and Abetting

Cass's pov

A whole minute has passed and I received no response from Beomgyu. I assumed he's relieved our fixed marriage has been changed to his advantage since he had chosen to look towards the window and closed his eyes.

I mentally sighed and left quietly to give him space and to get myself a drink. The iced coffee I just bought from a vending machine wasn't even opened when the two police officers came down the empty hallway I was standing on.

"Oh great." I already feel exhausted just by seeing the face of the smaller guy because he is the most talkative person I've ever encountered. It's like he's a walking dictionary that can explain or argue on every scenario.

"Looks like you finally have free time."

"Good morning to you too." I replied indifferently. I'm so tired of dealing with this persistent cop's unending questions the last time we met after the rollercoaster ride we've been through just to find Beomgyu.

"Is he awake?"

"Not yet." I lied to keep him away.

"It's alright. I can wait inside the bedroom if I have to."

"W-wait, no one's allowed to enter except the hospital staffs." I immediately followed him to stop the guy from disturbing the patient's alone time but he managed to open the door and unnecessarily woke him up.

"Who are you?" Beomgyu asked while gripping his blanket like his life depended on it. I wouldn't be surprised because the unwanted visitor is dressed casually, more like shady in his white rockstar shirt under a fake leather jacket and black jeans.

"I'm one of the cops who aided and abetted your "sister" just to rescue you from your psychopath neighbor." He simply said. Beomgyu's sharp jaws fell in awe.

"She's not my sister." He cleared it out almost immediately, probably because he's that disgusted with me.

"Yeah, I know."

My eyes widened at him.

"I did my research." He smirked and winked at me. "But due to that, I lost my job even after all the efforts I exerted just to find you and bring the perpetrator to justice."

"That's law for you. Too complicated and unfair for my liking." I shrugged my shoulders and stood between the boys in case he plans to harm us.

"Yes. I agree to be honest." He sighed and crossed his arms over his chest. "That's why I came here. To warn you that the suspect has been released last night and free of charges."

"Wait what?!" I can't believe she's back but it's not surprising since neither the police nor the justice system are reliable enough to be trusted on these things.

"She was on full revenge mode so she made sure I'll pay the price for helping you." He slumped on the cream white sofa behind him and massaged his temples. "Mi Young also sworn she'll do everything to get you in jail instead but I promise you I'll never allow that to happen."

I was impressed by his dedication but of all people, he really is trying to ruin his reputation for a stranger like me.

"I can protect myse-"

"What makes you think I'll let her do as she pleases?" Beomgyu cut my response in the middle of our conversation. "I'll press charges against her as soon as I'm able to."

"I'm afraid that's not possible."

"And why is that?" Beomgyu asked curiously.

"Mi Young's parents reported her missing last night because she never came home after she got released from the station."

"I take that some idiot has told her where Beomgyu is being treated at that's why you're here aren't you?" I gritted my teeth in annoyance.

"Sadly yes." He admitted. "That's why I want to offer myself as his personal bodyguard while recuperating."

"He doesn't need one." I shut him down because my intuition tells me he's up to something.

"I accept."
