That title makes us sound kinda sus, but whatever.

Cordelia POV

"Go check the books out and maybe find some connection here, though next time, you're on your own if you want to come here." Perseus said "Call me when you want to leave."

He then left me to my side to wander around. He like disappeared into thin air.

I walked around and looked at each book and one caught my attention.

'The significance of 13.'

13 what? It's so vague. The number, the rankers...anyway, I opened it and read through it quickly, I breezed through and got some information.

The number 13 is obviously associated as a very unlucky number. And it started from the human race, arguably the most influential race, humans have the most mythological deities amongst all races.

And even in the other races mythology, humans were seen in paintings as a probable ancestor for each race, and anyway, long story...the number 13, it started with the story of a Norse god, Loki, who appeared uninvited as the 13th dinner guest and tricked a god to kill another god by letting throw a mistletoe.

And then, there's a number of English language sources relate the "unlucky" thirteen to an idea that at the Last Supper, Judas, the disciple who betrayed Jesus, was the 13th to sit at the table.

After a lot of pages describing how unlucky the number 13 is, I read about the ranked, the people chosen by the 13 'gods' to go against this curse. That's what was told to the first raiders, they can overcome the odds with their strength, and to climb the tower successfully, you also need luck, and the top 13 are existence deemed by the gods as the luckiest ones.

They are lucky to born with the best talents and to reach where they are, they got the luck to overcome their obstacles, but they need to work hard, there are many cases of the top talents dying due to their arrogance, or growing too old without ever tapping into their full potential, which Brennan can be one example.

To bear the curse of the number 13, go against it and climb the tower, if an existence can do that, they can be considered as part of the 13 best raiders.

I then breezed through it a bit more and sure enough, I saw the book describing the number 1, Perseus biggest secret is that he's actually currently the strongest raider.

And I read something that I haven't seen this anywhere else. 12 is considered by some cultures as a perfect number, and 13 as very unlucky, and that extra one similar to the dinner guest in Valhalla situation, the number 1 raider is the one bearing the biggest curse.

And the 3 who made it to the official 91st floor in the past, was a team of the then number 1, they were accompanied a former number one and a number 4.

"Oh, that book-"

"Ahh-" I yelped "Why do you keep appearing out of nowhere?!"

"Do you want me to maybe hug your waist from the back next time in order to comfort you?" Perseus asked "A hug from a good looking protagonist like me should make your heart calm, right?"

"As much as I like that idea, no! First off, that's sexual harassment and 2, you'll just make a maiden's heart skip a beat! Not calm it down."

"So you're not against it, huh...I like honest and straightforward women, if you keep going, I might just ask you out someday."

"S-Shut up! Hmph."

Perseus POV

She's pretty cute, huh. I then pulled on her pouting cheeks which she glared at me and walked away from me. I then teased her a bit by actually hugging her from the back which stopped her in her tracks.

"What are you doing?" she asked in a frenzy

"Hugging my partner, is it wrong?"

"Y-yes."

"Why are you blushing? You don't actually have a crush on me, do you?"

"I thought you just broke up with the queen, how are you bouncing off so quick? Just so you know, I'm not that easy!"

I then just released her and sure enough, her face is bright red.

"I swear, in my next life, if I meet you again, I'll be sure to be the one who'll tease you to no end." she declared and stormed off.

I walked after her to see her stopped outside and waited for me.

"Lead me back, I don't know the way or pattern." she pleaded

"Man, you are so fun to tease."

I went to watch over Alvis in his first event since he got assigned double points for today since I'm not attending.

The first event is called 'ball smash', and no, it's not an event were people go up to a male student and smash their testicles, like the name, you take a ball and smash it. And no, this does not include a male organ in anyway.

Participants are to pick up this specially enchanted basketball sized ball...I'm saying ball so many times that it's starting to not sound like a word anymore. No wonder the title is the way it is, I bet he named it that just so he can show his love for balls.

Whatever you say, cuz I said ball so many times now, I'm sort of tired of it.

Anyway, you pick it up, you go to this designated area and smash it against the ground using magic or physical strength or whatever, the spot will then a signal to this machine which will then display a score.

They get 2 tries each.

And basically, the scoring system of this particular event and the whole preliminary in general works like this, the higher you are on the list, the lesser score you get based on your rank. Like the number 1, the best, getting 1 point. And the top classes with the least points will qualify for the next stage.
