A Sweet Flavor

"Oh? A level up? That was definitely a very pleasant surprise."

Blake was too focused on his new findings of the sweetness that a soul could have that he had forgotten for a second that eating all the souls he found and leveling up was his actual main goal for now.

"I need to remind myself about that…" Blake muttered out loud.

'But that doesn't mean I can't enjoy tasty souls either…' Blake muttered inside his mind.

'I just need to make sure that I don't go crazy with the tasty souls that I neglect the tasteless ones. Those tasteless ones still gave me the things I need to level up after all.'

Blake then nodded his head a couple of times to process and swallow the thoughts that he had in his mind before focusing back on the taste of the greenish demon's soul.

'It was surely a tasty one, but what gave it the sweetness that the insect wing demon soul didn't have? And why isn't it as sweet as the brownish demon's soul?'

'Maybe it was indeed because the greenish demon was also a demon mage that its soul had a sweet taste? And it was probably a weaker demon compared to the brownish demon and it also didn't have any bloodline power hence why the sweet taste was very lacking?'

Questions filled Blake's head as he tried to figure out the answers to his questions.

And even after wasting 10 whole minutes of trying to think of an answer and also after eating another humanoid demon, Blake still couldn't find a definite answer.

'I need to experiment more about this…'

Blake then suddenly stopped thinking as he realized something.

'Wait… aren't there too many things I need to experiment on?'

'...'

After a 3 second pause, Blake finally heaved a sigh.

'Whatever just do them one by one and I'll eventually finish them all.'

Blake then walked over to the last humanoid demon soul that he hadn't touched yet, which was the long claw demon's soul, and took it into his hands before he turned his head to look at his gorilla friend.

"You want this one, Robus?"

"rr." (You can have it as well if you want.)

"I don't really need it as I've concluded that I couldn't get my answers yet even after all of their souls, but I won't complain and will take it, thank you."

"We'll hunt some beast and give you their tasty souls after this."

Blake promised before he put the last humanoid demon soul into his mouth, which also tasted tasteless before devouring it and getting the decent savory flavor that he had actually craved a while ago.

After getting the long-clawed demon's soul inside his body, Blake then checked his status screen.

Blake nodded happily when he saw that he finally got unused status points that he could assign to his poor physical stats before he sighed in defeat as he saw the number of souls needed to level up yet again increased exponentially.

'I guess this is why Robus didn't level up yet even after eating all those souls…'

'His level must only be one, two, or at most three levels away from reaching level 15. And he also didn't eat the scrap souls that gave only one or two souls…'

'Maybe I should tell him that eating those souls also helps despite their unsavory and bland taste.'

Blake then noted it on the top of his mind and reminded himself to maybe shove a soul or two into Robus' throat when they hunted the weak demons and got their souls as he also wanted his gorilla friend to grow stronger along with him.

'Speaking of getting stronger…'

Stats:

Spirit: 47

Blake then put 3 of his unused stat into his physique stat as it received much less love so far due to his need of casting second realm spells while still putting 2 of the remaining stats into his spirit stat as he already knew that he will mostly focus on casting spells rather than punching his enemies to pulps.

Albeit, Blake still looked at Robus with amazement and wonder when he saw the huge gorilla taking in the skeletal wing demon's charge without a sweat while also breaking the latter's ribs with a single punch.

'Now that I have a sufficient amount of spirit stat to cast a second realm darkness spell without being incapacitated, I can do this instead of dumping all of my unused stats into the spirit stat.' Blake thought to himself.

And after making sure that he had done all the things that he wanted to do, Blake then turned his head to Robus.

"Now that we're done here, are you tired yet or do you want to grab a couple of quick bites while scouting for a possible tasty soul source?"

"Rrr.." (I barely moved today, not tired yet..)

Then with his slightly increased physical stat, Blake jumped up high, noticeably taller than before, before landing on top of Robus' back. "Well then let's go!"

The duo then took off.

With the smaller humanoid demon sitting on top of the huge demonic beast, the two traversed the forest with huge steps, finding their next victim to eat their souls and get themselves stronger.

The huge gorilla, just like how they did it every day, watched his surroundings and opened up his hearing and his eyesight wide to spot the demons that they could eat.

On the other hand, the jet-black humanoid demon, whilst also doing the same as his gorilla friend, he also hoped that he would spot another thing.

It was something that he had only seen today.

But his first meeting with them was unforgettable as their first encounter had given Blake something that he had never had before.

And that was a very unimaginably tasty gourmet experience that he would never forget in his entire life, which was also his first ever memory of tasting the sweetness of a soul.

A flavor that he would later be tasting a lot in the course of his life as a demon.
