Aftermath

-Lucas's pov -

"For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness." the words flowed from my mouth and I could feel the magic coursing through my veins, my blood, my soul

It felt like I was on fire as my magical power quickly vanished. This attack will kill them all and maybe even me, I now am resistant to holy magic and order magic but, this is on another level.

This is something, unprecedented.

I could feel parts of my skin burning off, my lungs felt like they were on fire, and my bones felt brittle.

I know if I survive Dembe and Oliver will grill me on how stupid I am being, on how selfish I am for risking my life like this.

Dembe will probably ask why I did it as he knows my distaste for humans, well my old distaste.

The evolution and invasion changed me, not only physically but mentally. I saw innocent people dying in the streets, I heard them praying to a God that will not answer. I can almost taste the death in the air with every city I visit.

Emily the girl I saved way back during the glade incident, I saw her at my speech when the invasion started. She looked so happy seeing me up there campaigning for the betterment of the city even though she probably didn't understand half of what I meant.

I could only imagine her disappointment if she learned of what I'm really like. My sister, who holds me on a pedestal, what would she do?

As my vision darkened and I saw the image of golden lightning raining down from the golden supple clouds that acted as the gates to heaven only two thoughts rang true in my head.

'I might never be a hero, but I will never damn this ever-changing planet to its destruction'

'I might kill but, it will never be in the name of societies justice but my justice,'

I promise.

*BOOOM!*

-Dembe Pov -

I watched as the golden lighting descended on the army of Martians, Lucas included. No one out of our little group said anything as it happened the sight was so beautiful and surreal.

Ethereal was the right word.

But, I felt despair as I watched the scene. Lucas could be dead right now, he could be dead and I wasn't strong enough to help.

The air burned my skin slightly, and that's how I knew whatever pain I was in Lucas was faring much worse.

as the lightning stopped and the clouds began to clear the sun once more shown in the sky. I swiveled my head to look at Andrew as the sun should kill him but, I saw he just looked in pain.

A tattoo was on his hand, one I was familiar with. Lucas had the same one.

"Do you think he survived?" the shallow voice of the flash broke me from my thoughts

"He has to," Oliver said softly I could tell he was shaken to his core

"It's impossible to tell from here sorry," Superman replied with a grimace while Batman just looked thoughtful

Wonder Woman looked ready to charge in, I wanted to but I couldn't without risking my life. If the air from here was this bad, I couldn't imagine getting closer.

"Nightmare is it, Did he sire you?" Andrew asked with a hopeful gaze

I looked at him and nodded, "then concentrate, take deep breaths and find that connection. If you haven't already felt like you lost something important to you then he should be alive,"

"What are you talking about?" The flash asked

"When a vampire sires someone an unbreakable connection is made, this connection allows for multiple things but one of them is letting the vampires know if their sire is in danger or dead," one of the order members said

"V-vampire?" the astonished voice of Oliver was the last thing I heard as I focused my mind

Nothing.

Where is it?

Nothing.

Where is the connection?

*thump*

I heard something.

*thump*

I feel something.

*THUMP!* I could hear his slow heartbeat, I could feel his life force and I knew he was okay

-Narrator pov -

The ground that was once a crater now turned into a long lightning-patterned abyss, the scene was truly biblical.

The only body left at the scene was the chared what appeared to be corpse of Lucas Queen. No one would be able to tell though, as his whole body was pitch black with flakes coming off as the gentle winds blew by.

If one could closely see the body, they would be able to see the flakes brushing off lessening. The sun beat down on his charred body but, it was almost as if the very sun itself was helping the healing process.

The sight was magical.

As time passed a person could be seen walking toward the body, he wore a green hood and was flanked by a man wearing blue and red.

His body would be brought back to starting city.

Around the same time as Lucas finished reading the Bible passage, a man sitting at a piano inside of a bar stopped playing, along with one of the bartenders.

Their heads were snapped in the direction of the explosion sight, and both of them had expressions that couldn't be explained in normal words.

The emotions the small expressions gave off were almost overwhelming. Even some guests started to feel the emotions to the point they were influenced slightly.

The happy bar turned sad, angry, and confused.

The man sitting at the piano, whispered under his breath, "dad?"

-Oliver pov -

Dembe and I traveled at speeds I didn't know possible carrying the charred body of my brother, my mind was still reeling from the revelation that he was a vampire, and he could do something so devastating.

I couldn't believe it, I couldn't fathom what that meant for me. For my intelligence, all of the signs were there I just couldn't believe that vampires are real.

"Will he be okay?" I asked my voice showed more emotions than I would have liked

"Yes," was Dembe's short reply but, I could tell he was worried

My stomach felt sick seeing his figure, I would have never thought my brother Lucas would do something so.

So.

So Heroic.

I couldn't let my real emotions show now, the hopeful mood would be tarnished. I couldn't think about the expression on Batman's face when he saw the truly biblical scene.

It was fear, not awe.

It was weariness, not thankfulness.

We arrived at Lucas's home and immediately Dembe rushed over to the garden and put my brother's body in a bush.

"What are you doing!" I said sharply

"The plant is special it was made by poison ivy to contain blood in the thorns, pricking yourself will inject blood into you or drain your blood depending on several conditions, right now it's putting blood into his body healing him faster, with the sunlight it should speed up the progress," he replied gruffly

Sunlight? Isn't that supposed to hurt vampires?

"There is nothing more we can do," Dembe said in a heavy tone and I sighed deeply

-break-

Dembe and I sat in the living room, the fireplace was burning softly as we both drank. I was drinking whisky but I think Dembe was nursing a glass of blood.

Both of us pretended we didn't see each other a tears.
