Marion's heart almost skipped a beat when she heard the series of sentences spoken by Emily. What the woman meant by her words was beyond her comprehension. Did this mean Eleanor had deceived her? Or was she deceiving everyone?
"I don't understand," said Marion, clearly unable to hide the feelings that were beginning to cloud her mind. "If Eleanor and Elle are two different women, then which one of them is my mother? Is it not both?"
Emily might have misstepped a few minutes ago. Because now, her future daughter-in-law would surely demand a version of the story that she could understand rather than knowing why it all happened. Or maybe all of it.
"Elle is your mother."
"Then who is Eleanor?"
"She's the woman who killed your mother and threatened to kill you too if Jeremiah found out who killed Elle and what her plans were."
