Chapter 56 -- Confession

The blood plant began to snake around my body, almost engulfing me. I was gasping for air under its enormous pressure. After a few failed attempts, I realized it was impossible to get away from its grip.

Lord Cardis turned to me with eyes so cold, like a snake's. He caressed my face with his cold hands. His gaze sent a shiver down my spine.

"I thought part of your soul was alive inside this body. Was I wrong?" he asked.

I was perplexed by his unfathomable behavior. What was he even talking about? I wondered.

"The day I woke up, when you appeared before my eyes, I recognized the scattered parts of your soul. My regret and grief for thousands of years had disappeared, believing I could finally repent. I swore I would treat you better in this life," Lord Cardis said.

"What the hell are you saying?" I asked bitterly as the thorns pierced deep into my body.

Lord Cardis's long hair was floating, making him look like an illusion.

"I had killed my daughter," he said calmly.
