Chapter 34: End

I see nothing but dark, I can hear machines that beeping beside me. I can't see it but when someone open the door it becomes noisy, I think that's the opposite room that I am in right now, the outside.

I don't know where I am, and why I am here.

I slowly open my eyes, and I see a bright light that makes my eye flinch. I try to move my arms to cover the light, but it seems like I used all my strength and can't really move them.

The room was too bright to be my house, what happened?

When I look at my side, I was right, there's an electronic vital sign monitor that beeping beside me and reading my red blood pressure, my pulse, temperature and oxygen saturation levels at precise intervals.

Beside the monitor, there's a bunch of flowers and gifts on top of the side table that I don't know where it came from, there's also a huge human size stuffed toy and I my gut was strong that this character was—Totoro.

I can also see lot of tubes inserted on my left hand, dextrose, catheter, blood transfusion and lot more of things. Now that I gained consciousness, I didn't noticed that I'm wearing and used an oxygen mask.

Just like the room, I wear a bright white gown.

And now, I know where I am. Obviously, for everything I've seen, it's enough proof that I'm in the Hospital.

However, my memory is still fuzzy, and everytime I try to remember what happened to me,

my head will hurt. Also, I'm little bit confused why I sudden know all of this machines and tubes.

I try to move my body little by little, from fingers, arms, hips, legs until I finally sat up myself and leaned my back against the headboard of the bed.

Nakatunganga lang ako na parang tanga, it felt like i was waiting for someone, but I didn't know who it is.

When I gaze my vision to the left side of the room, I saw a woman not far beside me. She's in deep sleep and based on her overall look, I can say she's seriously exhausted.

She seems familiar but I can't determine who she was.

All I can remember was, the feeling that she cares for me and I care for her in vise versa.

Maybe we're related? I don't know.

The woman I had been looking at suddenly woke up. I just watched her stretch out his hands as she yawn. She even wipe out all the saliva on the side of her mouth that had been dripping earlier.

I know it's hyperbolic to say, but she's like a witch in a hidden mountain without a bath for a decade.

It made her eyes widen as well as her forehead become wrinkled and she suddenly burst into tears that made me frowned.

I felt her warm hug and tears dripping from her eyes into my shoulder. She hold my face like I was her son.

I don't know but I think she really make sure if I'm alright? I guess.

I felt heat from my heart when she hugged me like she and I shares the same blood, basta I can't explain how it feels.

She wiped away her tears and immediately pressed the black button on the side of my bed.

I know what it is, pressing it will allows patients in health care settings to alert a nurse or other health care staff member remotely of their need for help or emergency.

I can't signify how many there are, but I estimate that there are fifteen doctors and eight nurses here, not including people in black suits as well as paparazzis. I know they're paparazzi, besides, they carry cameras, paper and ballpen on which they write the information they gathered.

"Are you alright? Is there anything hurt from your body?" Tanong ng isa sa mga doctor.

I just say the word "No" and all of them was amazingly frowned like—hell?

Tulad ng babae kanina, all of them give me a deep stare as I let out a words from my mouth.

A doctor from the back suddenly spoke, "Obviously, the patient is undergo of the disease called Foreign accent syndrome..."

"Don't tell me..." Putol niya but he suddenly pause when the first doctor earlier continue what he was pointing.

"Yes, you're right. It is a syndrome where the patient think that he speak naturally but the truth, we—the audience or the receiver didn't understand it because of the sudden language change." He explained.

I really don't understand what they're talking but, I pointed out something.

It means that they find hard to understand what I'm saying because...

I speak in different language. Tsk.

Voices in the room scattered like a group of wasp, but the doctor continue what he was about to tell.

"What's your name?" He asked.

"R—Reycepaz.." I answered.

"All right Reycepaz, basically aside from your name we can't actually understand what you're saying right now and it seems that you're the only one who can understand us. Right now, we can hear you speak in dutch..."

I didn't even know how to speak Dutch, then how could I?

"One of us here, know how to speak different language because we expect this to happened, Mr. Rodrigo can you do your job?"

"No problem, Reycepaz, yes you speak different or should I say dutch, however It doesn't mean you actually are, it's just that your accent or the way you speak is quite similar to the dutch language. This is not a serious matter but it takes you a while to get back your natural language." Paliwanag nito.

The time has come when the one of the doctor throw a question that made me shock.

"Once again, do you remember your name? What's your name?" He asked while the crowd was in silence.

My name is Reycepaz Dixon Madigan!" I answered. But the doctor earlier who speak different language translate everything I say, so I think no hassle.

Everyone in the room shout in success like they win in a huge jackpot lotto.

"Do you still remember everything?" The doctor continued to ask.

"No, some of my memory was still fuzzy and everytime I try to remember them it hurts—" I explained.

And all the doctors agree with my statement like they really thought about this.

That's when the time I ask them the question.

"What happened to me?"

The doctors look at each other as if they are telling each other that "you should the one to tell and explain.."

One doctor forward her steps and start explaining.

Luh, nagmukhang fashion show ang kwarto na'to sapagkat isa-isa silang rumarampa sa gitna pag may nais sasabihin.

"Please to meet you again Mr. Reycepaz. I'm Dr. Malazar and I am here to explain everything what happened to you. Your family happen to have an outdoor activity in Mount Pico de Loro to have a vacation. Unfortunately, an accident occur that made the whole world shocked, when the Family of Madigan, your family, had a car accident with another Vehicle.

"I'm very sorry to tell you this but, because of that accident, both of your parents are dead. The only survivor to that accident was you and your Sister. Your sister was fine and she only received a small fracture from her hands and scratches all over her body. However, because you bump your head with rock, you've been sleeping for the past 666 days. Yes, you had been comatose and gladly you're alive."

My head filled with confusion and bewilderment as she explained. I don't really understand why? Besides some of my memory state that my sister was already dead of an accident when I was still a child.

I gulp and ask the doctor,

"Where's Merliah? H-How about savannah? How was the school I've been teaching? Did they expelled me for not attending for the past 666 days?" I simultaneously ask.

I can see in the doctors faces that they are puzzled for what I've been stating.

"W-What do you mean that you're teaching?" Dr. Malazar asked.

"Yes, I'm teaching at Maximus Vice University." I said proudly to them.

They look each other again like they confused for what things I've been telling.

I can see also the reporters that they are eager to write all of the things that I and the doctors mentioned.

Dr. Malazar sigh, "Mr. Reycepaz. The school that you've mentioned was nowhere to be found." She said that it made my eyebrows collide.

I looked around until I found a familiar gadget—a cellphone. I immediately retrieved it and type straight into the search engine the University where I teach.

I don't know why I'm good at using this thing, even though my memories said that I never encountered this thing—tsk I can't explain.

Ngunit kahit anong type ko ay ang tanging nakalagay lang ay , "Your search - Maximus Vice University - did not match any documents.

▪️Make sure all the words are spelled correctly.

▪️Try different keywords.

▪️Try more general keywords.

▪️Try fewer keywords."

When I finally realized that the woman that seems familiar to me, was really—my sister.

I hug her tightly even there's a part of my body that still hurt, the pain doesn't matter, my sister is my sister. My sister is my hero. It felt like I didn't see her for a decade. That's why when she hugged me earlier it feels like we share the same blood, because we really are.

"I missed you" sambit ko, na hindi ko namalayan na tumutulo na pala ang aking mga luha.

Ilang minuto rin bago ko nabitawan si ate at hinarap ulit ang mga Doctors.

"So would you mind explaining Mr. Reycepaz what happened there? But don't force to remember if your head is going to hurt okay?"

She asked, like she want to know what really happened in my other world. I try to remember everything.

The pain is not that hurt, It's accurate that I can say there were about a hundred needles stuck in my head. Yes, that's still hurt.

I explained everything, even the faces to all person and creatures I met is now blurry and foggy, I start where I apply and entering as a teacher in the infamous University which is the Maximus Vice University. I handled different kind of students, a student who had a family of gamblers and she's been beating by her dad all the time, a student who's shy to attend the school because she's pregnant, a student who sells a snacks just to support himself in paying all the payment in school, a student who's victim of bully but became the most friendly in the class, a student who's lack of confidence but in the end she became the champion and lot more of them.

Fuck—did I just remember those people? It feels like they're exist but it feels that they are not too. I'm holding my head while explaining them. I must because it hurts.

I also explained that I fall from one of my student and her name was Merliah.

There's also an Protagonist on my story and she was Savannah who end my life there, and that's the time I woke and found myself here, which really hospitalized by accident and not because Merliah pushed me—

Napatigil ako ng sandali ng ma-alala ang huling nangyari sa akin bago paman ako nagising dito, in the world where I am in, I was killed by Merliah.

I don't know if I will thank or mad at her, besides, without her killing me, I can't see my sister again or worst I will not be able to see the real world again.

As I explain my experience to the doctors, their eyebrows meet that they really listen to everything I say. I can see also that the reporters write everything I said. I expected them not to believe but a voice from the back stole our attention.

"There is no middle ground between consciousness and unconsciousness in our brains. Beside, losing this sense means that dreams shouldn't occur. Therefore, it should be highly doubtful that a person experiences dreams while in a coma.

"There are lot of research like this in the country of Rochester, and it is first time in history that we have a patient like this here in the Philippines, and it is you Mr. Madigan."

"I am Dr. Pascua a Somnologist, people call me Sleep doctor or Somnus in short, but I prefer no formality and just call me Dr. P. We kind of doctors are specialist for treating a sleep disorders, most common is Insomnia. We also diagnose and treat different types of syndromes that related in dreaming as well as sleeping. This Hospital is number 1 here in the Philippines. However, I admit we still lack on knowledge in this kind of rarest phenomenal things." The Doctor continued explained.

He's so confident, the way he throw his words it's like he doesn't care if people believe him or not.

But I do believe him.

"Is this happened to be the Lucid dream?" A reporter asked from the back who was stopped by the black suit man.

After hearing this, Dr. Pascua explain further.

"Lucid dreaming is an intriguing state of sleep in which a person becomes aware that they are dreaming. But that's not the case here, besides, Mr. Madigan is not just sleeping after a tired work or something else but he was in Coma, which is lead into a Kleine-Levin Syndrome KLS, also known as "Sleeping Beauty" syndrome, it is a rare neurological disorder characterised by recurrent bouts of hypersomnolence or excessive sleeping along with cognitive and behavioural problems during wakefulness.

"The person who's diagnose with this kind of syndrome wake up and have a different story to tell that neither friends nor family ever know. They literally created a new fantasy world. Just like you said earlier, you meet different people. And those characters are 50% true and 50% false. In short, those 50 percent are not true and just a creation of your creative imagination. While those 50 percent left was true and by any chance, do you happen to remember to have any friends in your dream?"

I still can't believe that I have a sleeping beauty syndrome, what a cute syndrome I have. I'm still confused to all the words I encounter right now but I just answer all his questions.

"J—Joaquin, Exequill, Julius and Nathaniel?" I answered in question form and see the reaction of my sister.

She smiled and say that they were exist, she said that they are my friends since I was a teen. Then now they have different busy jobs and they just visit me trice a week and give me presents. Now I know where this flowers and presents came from, what a gayish things to do. Morons.

Because of too much confused I asked him again a question.

"How can you sure that I was really in a dream and not on the other world?"

Everyone gulp like they heard a question from the president of the united states. But Dr. Pascua didn't hesitate to answer this questions.

"I'm confident to my answers and it's up to you if you will believe me or not, but I believe in your dream you can't see your reflection in the mirror or anything but just a dark. Additional explaination to what you have asked, in dream we can less or can't taste anything, it means even you eat lot of burgers, spaghetti, crustaceans or whatsoever, you cannot taste anything. Also, the huge advantage that people want to stay in their dreams is because, they can't feel pain. Kahit na ilagay sa blender ang iyong mga kamay ay hindi ka makaramdam ng sakit."

Wala akong ibang reaksiyon kung hindi ang mapatunganga sa explenasiyon niya. It's just my brain still processing all the information.

I really thought that I have an ageusia or I am special. Silly me.

Even I freaking can't felt anything, Akala ko na nasa dugo namin ang pagiging CIPA, kung saan hindi kami makakaramdam ng kahit anong sakit. Little did I know that I was in dream all the time.

Even the mirrors, talagang kinuha ko ang salamin na nasa drawer ng mesa at tinignan ko talaga kong totoo ba ang mga pinagsasabi nila.

And I'm literally shocked when I saw my damn face! I didn't even know that this was my face. Ang gwapo ko pala!

Damn-self appreciation.

I also asked him why I tend to forget people that I met in my dream, and he said that because, dream change time to time.

And he also said that everytime I remember words and it made my head hurt in my dream, ay dahil sa unti-unti ko ng na-alala ang mga bagay at ito raw ang sinyale na malapit na raw akong magigising.

I asked the doctor once again, and this one is the most important question that I wanted to know the answer.

"How do I woke up?" He push his glasses with his index finger while smirking before answering my question.

Dude, he's so cool like he was a genius character on an anime!

"The thing is, enable to make the person wake up from it's dream, he or she must do a brutal way to wake him/herself up. You said that a girl named Merliah pushed you from the building right?" Tanong niya na agad naman akong tumango.

"That death falling from the top of the building triggered you to wake up in reality. So thank her—" The doctor continued explained and laugh.

Well even though I hated Merliah for pushing me from the building,

I'm still glad at her. She become part of my life even she betrayed me.

I know I'm crazy but I still love her even I hate her.

The talk had become longer and longer that I myself lost track of time.

I know that it's already afternoon besides the Golden bright of sun hit us from the huge window were the table was placed.

...

Everyone left the room except from my sister, she still mesmerized and can't believe that I was alive and I also can't believe that she was dead on my dream and now alive in reality.

"What do you said earlier?" She asked habang tumataas ang kilay.

"What? Saan doon? Andami kong sinatsat kanina na hindi ko na nga ma-alala" I answered and she pinch my cheeks like I was a little boy.

"Aray! saan ba kasi doon?"

"'Yung sabi mong occupation?" Asik niya.

"Ahh, you mean being a teacher?" I gasped.

"You know what, when you're was a cute little baby boy. You told me that when you grow older you want to become a Doctor and I ask why you don't want to be a teacher like me? And you answered like 'I hate your job, I hate being a teacher besides, a teacher is a strict and always throw a chalk if a student don't want to listen' I laughed burstly when you said those. Then when you reach college you really choose to get the profession of becoming a Doctor, because you said to me that, that is your passion."

...

I was shock, again for what she said, I am a—doctor? Noooo.

She said.

"Nagsalita 'yung hindi naligo ng isang dekada.." sambit ko na agad naman akong napasigaw ng naramdaman ko ang kuko niya sa tagiliran ko.

"Pero seryoso, are you serious ate?" I ask while my right eyebrow raise.

"Am I joking to you? Rey, I'm dead serious."

Even it's functions. Hmp!

"I don't know if you still remember, but the car that we've driven was happened to collide with another car that causes a huge accident. Mom and dad are both dead and you and I are the only survivor. I just have a few scratches and fractures, but you receive a fatal that lead to a coma." She explained and I only gaze her.

"Why you do that eyes?" Tanong niya.

"Ate, inexplain na 'yan ng Doctor kanina,.you should not repeat it. Baka ma copyright ka pa riyan" I gigglingly answered.

"Reycepaz, I try to explain back to you dahil baka makalimutan mo..."

For God sake! You're already 35 ate! Don't cry like a toodler.

"By the way ate, I remember in my dream that I have dozens of cars is it true?"

"No, wag kang managarap Rey."

I really expect that I have kahit Isa lang. Ngunit agad naman nagsalita si ate ulit.

"But you have 4 yacht, 2 helicopter and you owned 6 building and 1 helicopte—"

I was literally speechless and I can feel that my eyes are widen for what she said.

But dude! That's great to hear! I can't wait to try them!

The doctors said that I should stay here in the hospital as long as I regain 3/4 of my memories, normally it takes 4-5 months. It's not that difficult actually if there's someone trigger your memory and made it back and my sister help me with it and we continued talking until we ran out of topic. Buti nalang talaga that part of being a teacher is to learn one language and she fortunately learned a dutch kaya hindi na siyang nahirapan pang intindihin ang mga sinasabi ko.

__________

(1 MONTH LATER)

I'm not gonna lie, being in coma is hard. Specially when you have both memories of the dream and reality, sometimes I'm still little bit confused of things going around me, I'm mistakenly thought that a thing or someone is exist.

It's back-breaking if you don't have someone to lean on and make them as your strength. Thankful for me that I have my sister in my side and she help me a lot.

After I regain my consciousness and retrieved most of my memories, napagdisesyonan ko nang bumalik sa aking profession, ayaw ko na mananatiling nakahiga sa kama at ina-alala ang lahat ng nangyari.

At first I gulp and I really got goosebumps when I heard what is my position here in the hospital, and guess what, I was the Medical director.

It is the highest level position as a doctor, and i hold the most power and responsibility in the hospital. I also coordinate and direct medical as well as health services for an entire facility or a medical department within a facility. I checked papers and do a lot of task to maintain the hospital neat and number one in the country.

I think things will change, when I happen to read some documents of a new woman who labored a new babies.

1.--------------

2.-----------

3. SHANNALIE VALDEZ

4.-----------

5...

Shannalie? That's an Interesting familiar name.

I immediately get my phone and head towards the location.

I can't use my helicopter, I just ditch my work.

Actually my time will be wasted for what I'm doing, but there's nothing wrong if you try, besides you will not know if you'll not try.

What I expected was a huge different, because in my hypothical dream the Shannalie that I know has happen to live in a squatter area.

However, the Shannalie in this real world live in a quiet abundant place, a perfect place that I can call home where you can shares viands with your neighbors and that's the—village. I can see how happy she was, holding her baby with her husband.

And for that reason, my tears fall for no exact reason. I didn't bother to interrupt their moment. Knowing that she's happy and doing good, it's enough for me.

I return my way to the Hospital and direct ahead to the cafeteria. I ordered a fresh herb tea, besides I'm really allergic in drinking coffee and process tea, I palpitate and can't breathe properly, I wish I can back in my dream were I can eat everything without getting fat.

"Excuse me Doctor—here's the paper you asked." A kid grabbed my attention.

"Oh it's you Liam, thank you! Do you want to drink tea with me?"

"I appreciate it Doc, but I still have lot of things to do." he excuse.

"Don't stress yourself out, ano ka ba! try to have some relax okay?" I said and he just nodded and thank me then walk away. Talagang ayaw niyang mag-tsa-a maybe he's really quite busy.

I ordered him to search my papers, dahil sa daming mga papel na nakatambak sa opisina ko, hindi ko na makita ang sariling documents.

I want to study the accident that occur that day, I want to know who are the people that we collided to. Maybe there was a faul play happened or something else.

The papers are in color black brief case, secured with 13 digit password. I know the password so it's not that hard for me to open.

Ngayon ko lang napagdisesyonan na basahin ito, sapagkat im in the healing process for the past months.

After unlocking the case, nakabalot pa ito sa bubble wrap and few more clear cellophane.

When I finally hold the clean black papers with white ink written on it, I start reading.

A few seconds in reading the context of the paper, I can't believe for what I have read.

It made my jaw literally dropped.

My knees were trembling in shock and it's like the world stop turning from it's orbit and the only thing I can hear is my heart that wouldn't stop pounding.

...

I don't want to believe it, but these papers never go wrong.

To see is to believe they say, so I got up from my seat and slowly walked down the hall way of the hospital even my knees are shivering until I took the elevator.

While the elevator was operating, my mind did not stop remembering everything that happened in my dream.

I guess dream is not just a dream, sometimes it happends in real life in a mere chances.

I hear the elevator bell and walk outside. As I slowly forward my steps, my heart starts to beat rapidly.

This is it, I gulp as I reach the front door of one of the private room.

I am the Medical director so I have all the passcode of every door in this hospital.

I enter the room and gaze the woman resting and sleeping in the bed.

She's the real "Sleeping beauty".

I still mesmerized her beauty until I found myself sitting beside her.

From head to toe,.I know it was her.

As I gaze her, I noticed that there's a small teardrop coming out from her face.

She's continuing dreaming.

I hold her soft as pillow stunning hands.

I don't know what's going on my mind but i feel her warm and soft as cotton candy and red as blood lips in mine. I kissed her.

There's not a glimpse of hesitation in my eyes.

This is strange. It's such an epitome of perfection, and I feel so safe—like I've finally found the perfect sanctuary I've been searching for all this time.

If human give second chance maybe God as well.

I can see her eyes moving. I can see her fingers in motion.

Gradually her precious eyes opened as if she had just woken up on the long flight.

I'm glad she's alive and I'm pleased we're breathing the same air now.

I really thought that she will push me for kissing her but,

She look at me. She's definitely fine in the outside but it seems she's suffering in the inside.

Outwardly she she'd no tears, but i know in her heart, she was weeping grievously.

I finally see again her emerald eyes that full of eros and deep affiliation that always darken like a Dee forest of Amazon. But for a while it immediately turned red and the huge tears were dripping from it.

She cried as a girl left by her mother in the park. I know this will happen.

She also punched me with the strongest blow she could even if it wasn't painful.

What's the most painful thing to experience is to be left by the one you love, to betrayed by the person you loved and not a mere single puch that she give.

Yes, she killed me. But I finally get I now.

She did the right thing.

She killed me inorder for me to make my dreams come true, and that dream is to be with her in reality.

But a second chance is an option, besides, a person who can't forgive is hideous as the fish who can't breathe under the water.

She hugged me like she really know who I was, I feel warm and I know she feels it too.

My eyes start to blur not because I'm dying but my tears are falling for what she said.

"Thank you for waiting me—Rey."

Merliah said.
