"She is out." Luke laughed, seeing that Nefera was fast asleep against my chest.

"They're both asleep." Then, smirking, I look down at the new car seat on the chair beside me. "It's been a very long day for both of them."

Dinner had gone on for far longer than anyone thought. It was nearly midnight, and it was only now starting to die down. Of course, that was partially because of the pack leaders. They seemed to enjoy our hospitality and were happy to take fourths and fifths of everything, including the expensive wine that Krystal bought just for them. Nefera didn't care, but I did, especially since Fletcher spent most of the night throwing passive-aggressive comments in my direction. He talked about how lucky some packs were to live near humans. So they could do solid business and take advantage of their commerce while still enjoying the protected wilderness they didn't have to fight to preserve.
