Louisa did not understand why Simon had to say any of that or why Rochester would send somebody to her hometown; a messenger to her father. Wasn't it too early for that? Besides, Rochester's motive for wanting to make her stay was not so clear yet.
"You are only telling me the things your boss has said to you," Louisa said. "Why are you not telling me his reason for doing this? How did you even know that I was going to set out this early?" She asked because it was too outrageous how they sought her out this quickly.
"It is only the boss that can answer that question," Simon spoke frankly.
"What question?" Louisa asked back. "Is it the one where he has a reason for forcing me back from taking my trip? Or the one where you cannot answer how you and these men," she gestured with her hands, "you all knew to find me out here by this time."
