A week had passed since Arthur became a Beyonder.
He didn't get complacent just because things were going easy for him. The very next day since taking the potion, Arthur started to spend even more time studying the Obscure Tome and with Sabrina.
One thing to notice was that Arthur felt the potion was almost completely digested. He wondered how was that possible, but realized that he had accidentally acted ahead of time. It was in the name, after all, Mystery Pryer, those that pry into mysteries. Having so much knowledge about the secrets of the world, the remaining spirituality of the potion must have accepted his knowledge as having 'pried into mysteries.' However, as it was information he had beforehand, he still had some remaining potion waiting to digest.
Arthur thought he could finish it in two weeks just by using the knowledge in the Obscure Tome.
Harion was, as described before, a fountain of knowledge. Reading its pages for the past week, Arthur came to appreciate the knowledge it possessed. His rudimentary grasp of mystical knowledge was slowly going towards knowing the basics. Using materials he had found on the island and on his storage, Arthur tried simple rituals, like the Wall of Spirituality, to practice.
On the other hand, since he was using the tome so much, the side effect of having knowledge dumped into his mind, even if the knowledge was correct, was beginning to annoy him.
Another thing was Sabrina, and their tests to see what she was capable of. She could actually leave the Black Pearl up to a kilometer away, but only for six hours before having to return. Any object that was inside and property of the ship and its habitants, she could control. For example, Sabrina could shoot the revolver on her own. Another thing was that Arthur was right, she was slowly turning more solid as if a body was being built to her.
Arthur's studies on how to be captains were also progressing nicely. He still couldn't navigate on his own, but at least he knew what to do in different scenarios, what order to give to his crew, how to be a good captain in the helm.
"So, today is the day we leave this place..."
"Are you worried?" Asked Sabrina.
"A little, but worrying won't bring me anything good," answered Arthur. "Better just dive straight in, and deal with rest as it comes."
"Is that a good mentality to have?"
"Well, we will know if it is when it works," laughed Arthur, now standing behind the steering wheel.
After one last check to see if everything was in place, including the crystals he had mined in storage, Arthur glanced at Sabrina and smiled. He unsheathed his sword pointing it towards the ceiling, the ropes on the deck moved on their own, the sails raised, and down the river and towards adventure they went.
"Oh that's right, what name did you decide on?" Asked Arthur, curious to know the name Sabrina thought for the island.
"Well, I thought about the best memories I had, and a place of freedom governed by pirates," smiled Sabrina, her eyes looking into something only she could see.
"Tortuga, that's what I decided."
...
By the third day at sea, a blinding sun shone brightly against the blue sky. The weather had been the same since the first day of leaving the island. This was good news, it was better than having a storm, however, that was the only good news they had.
Since neither Arthur nor Sabrina had any idea of where to go, they consulted the Obscure Tome in hopes it had something. Harion did know about the different places they could go, but couldn't tell them how to arrive there. So, the Black Pearl just drifted away on the sea, and its captain stood vigilant towards any signs of land.
The day, however, was about to get a lot more difficult.
Arthur first noticed when the wind started to pick up. Afar, he could see the fast-moving gray clouds that seemed to compete to see who arrived at the Pearl first. Eerie, sharp squawks suddenly sounded overhead. Looking up, he could see flocks of birds, small and big, covering the darkening sky, fleeing the approaching storm.
A light drizzle began, getting stronger by the minute. The sky became gradually dark as if god was raging and weeping. The calm sea beneath the Pearl became more violently, carelessly tossing the ship about.
"A storm is coming," said Sabrina looking towards the sky. As if responding to her, a crash of thunder, louder than any other Arthur had ever heard before, rocked the ship.
Turning towards Sabrina with a raised eyebrow, he said. "No, really?..."
Forks of lightning flashed across the sky, and waves crashed against the hull.
"Reef the sails! We'll sail under bare poles, and try to go away from the storm's path to its right," commanded Arthur, using the knowledge he learned from Sabrina for the first time.
"Aye, Captain!" Exclaimed Sabrina, proud her new Captain was learning.
The sails were lowered and the rigging was fast. Soon, the storm was hitting the Black Pearl with full force. The wind screamed around the rigging, the rain became a flood of water pouring down from a pitch-black sky. Above, clouds roiled, swirled, and crashed, mirroring the waves below.
Arthur used all his strength to steer the wheel towards where he wanted, if this was before he had taken the potion, it would be spinning wildly. The sea anchor was lowered from the end, to make it easier for him.
For someone experiencing this type of storm for the first time, Arthur knew he should be terrified, shaking on his boots. However, anyone looking at him would swear he was having fun.
What else could they think, when he was smiling wildly and laughing out loud?
Hours were spent that way, with a smiling lunatic on the wheel, till the clouds and rain swept on. Within a few minutes, it was as if there had never been a storm at all. The sun shone, the wind blew, and fish leaped out of the water. And then, a green line appeared on the horizon.
"Land!" Shouted Arthur, soaked from the rain, exhausted but still smiling with bright eyes. "Raise the sails! Let's see what we can find."
