Chapter 4: Does proposing count as a big deal?

Since Stanhope Brown hung up the phone, everyone handed their cellphones back to the owner and began discussing who the woman Stanhope proposed to was.

However, amidst the lively chaos and the incessant interweaving of light and dark, the gentle woman sitting in the center of the crowd with a faint smile on her face... her complexion was eerily pale, and her expression dim.

"Sister Wanda?" The young lady sitting beside the beautiful woman called out, worried.

Wanda Webster shook her head, smiling gently in a stunning manner. Even in the flickering and dim light, it was impossible not to notice her beauty.

Her curly hair spilled over her shoulders, and her skin was as fair and delicate as that of a shelled egg. Her face was exquisite, and her eyes shone like gemstones. She was an exceptionally stunning woman, exuding an elegant air that seemed untainted by worldly troubles.

However, in the depths of her beautiful eyes, there seemed to be countless complex emotions concealed by her smile and the dim light.

"Brother Stanhope is really insincere! Don't you agree, Sister Wanda?" A careless young man asked Wanda Webster.

Wanda gently nodded with a smile: "Yes... He even kept us in the dark."

"Sister Wanda... Stanhope usually listens to you the most! You should talk to him seriously!"

Wanda Webster smiled and nodded, appearing to always be accommodating of any requests from anybody: "Okay... "

It was already one o'clock in the morning when Grace Gordon returned home, and the lights in the house had been turned off.

In the past, as long as Grace didn't call to say she wasn't coming back, Aunt Howe, who took care of Lewis Yale and her daily life, would always leave the lights on waiting for her. Upon hearing her come in, Aunt Howe would immediately fetch slippers and hot water for Grace. Yet today, the house was completely dark, and Aunt Howe didn't come out.

Grace thought... Aunt Howe might be asleep!

Standing at the entrance, she took a deep breath and opened the shoe cabinet. She couldn't find her slippers, but instead found a pair of high heels that didn't belong to her placed where her slippers usually were.

Grace felt as if a bucket of ice-cold water was poured over her head, her fragile body left shivering as if frozen.

Leaning against the wall as she went upstairs, she heard sultry moans coming from the bedroom. At that moment... Grace Gordon, Lewis Yale's legal wife, didn't even have the courage to open the door and confront them.

Today... Grace had pinned all her hopes on Lewis Yale, as he had narrowly escaped death. The only plea for help she sent went to him!

However, Lewis Yale had given her despair; she had nearly been raped to death, and yet he brought another woman back to their home, wore her slippers, and slept in her bedroom.

Was the pleasure he shared with other women more important to him than her life?

Grace stood at the door, listening to the sounds from within, feeling her chest ache.

That year, Grace got drunk... The next morning, she woke up in the same bed as Stanhope Brown. Stanhope's girlfriend couldn't bear it and committed suicide... But Lewis Yale still fulfilled his marriage contract and married her.
