I've Never Broken A Promise

"Don't make promises you can't keep," Delia told him, looking away.

"Delia," Simon said in such a serious voice that she had to look back at him. She had never seen him like this. "I've never broken a promise. Even if it takes me forever, I see them through to the end."

It was impossible not to believe him when he said it like that. His eyes looked a million years old in that moment. Like he truly had seen a promise through to the end that took multiple lifetimes. Which was crazy. He was fifteen. He couldn't have possibly.

Delia was barely able to reply around the lump in her throat. "What if we break up?"

"That won't happen."

"You don't know—"

"I won't let it," he said fiercely. "Breakups happen when people aren't willing to work together. That will never be a problem on my end."
