“Then who’s going to pay for her death if not him?” Gemma snarled. “Horscroft has to pay for something.”
This was not getting them anywhere. Jamie changed tack, hoping that Daniel was close enough to pounce. He lowered his gun, holding up his hand to say he wasn’t going to shoot.
“Look, Captain, put the gun down and we can walk out of here. You and I can talk and we’ll come to a resolution that doesn’t involve killing someone.”
“And what about him?” Gemma gestured at Nick. “He deserves to see someone he cares about die in front of him.”
“You really thought killing me and my sister was going to make this any better?” Nick demanded.
Gemma shrugged.
“It’ll make me feel better.”
Jamie had thought his boss was mad at times, but nothing like this. She was obsessed. He took a deep breath.
“Put the gun down, Gemma. You don’t want to do this.”
“Yes, I do.” Gemma was now pointing the gun at Nick’s head. “And you’d do well to walk away now, Detective Pell.”
