Jamie glanced at Daniel, and Nick saw the look pass between them. They were that type of couple who didn’t need to speak to communicate. If only he could have a relationship like that.
Maybe he could. One day.
“Your relationship is solid with your sister, then,” Jamie said gently.
“Yes, very.” Nick rubbed his hands on his thighs. “We’ve only got each other. Our grandparents on Dad’s side live in Wisconsin and Mom’s parents immigrated to Australia five years ago. The rest of the family are scattered across the world and we don’t speak much to them. It’s just us for the most part.”
“And you think she might have relapsed and vanished because of it.”
Nick nodded. Then he shook his head. He slumped against the cushions, rubbing his hands over his face.
