Girl Residential College. The Neptune Building.
Five silhouettes of human girls are sneaking up to the rooftop of the Neptune Building. Their action is considered suspicious as the rooftop is a forbidden area to enter, especially at midnight.
Bam!
"Slow down, stupid! The guards will notice that some people are intruding the rooftop in the middle of the night!" Sofia whispered in an angry tone. She glares at her friends behind her, who are giggling excitedly.
"That is Thalia's fault. She is too nervous and accidentally slams away the door." Maria glances at Thalia, a girl with a messy ponytail that stands closer to the wall. "Coward. What are you scared of too? There are five people here, including you. Don't be a wuss."
"I'm not a coward!" Thalia said back. "I just...I felt uneasy. Should we continue our plan? They said Hanna is still unconscious on her hospital bed, without any hint of recovery. What if..."
"It's the same thing, silly. Hanna will wake up soon. Chill out, girl." Rania chipped in. "There's no such thing as a ghost in this world. Do you believed Hanna's soul gets sucked out by the ghost?! That's a blatant lie."
Thalia is still hesitating. She looked at her friend's faces one by one.
"But..."
"Shut up, already. If you repeated the word 'but' again, I lock you out. " Jane is pissed off with Thalia's hesitant attitude. If she is that unwilling to follow them, then stay at home! "Ugh, reminded me again why am I following you guys out here in the middle of the night?! Just because you guys are adamantly want to prove the existence of a ghost? It's cold up here. I wanted to have a relaxing night, not an adventurous one!"
"Hush! Do you guys have some death wishes? If we get discovered by the patrolling guards, we might get suspended for a whole year. Please stop this conversation right now! You are the one who agreed with our decision and had followed us obediently" Sofia smacked Jane's head lightly. "You always have such a bad temper, Jane. At this rate, even the ghost is being scared off by you alone."
Jane rubbed her head.
"That's hurt."
"My ears are hurting more because of your loud voice. Compare to that thundering sound? My light smack is nothing." Sofia sneered.
Maria and Rania are excitedly running to the center of the rooftop, where a big manila card is lying there.
"Oh, that girl sure is keeping her promise very well. I thought she might be joking, but she did prepare everything required for the game perfectly." Maria checked the manila card with great interest. Alphabets and numbers are drawing on that piece of thick paper in colorful pens. And three boxes, with delicate handwriting on them, stated as Home, In and, Out, surrounded by those alphabets and numbers in order.
Three candles in the center are enough to brighten the dimly lit place. A coin is laying on the Word Out.
"If she is interested in this game, why isn't she joined the fun? She suggested the game to us, that girl should take responsibility and play together with us." Janet narrowed her eyes and kept looking around suspiciously. "Is this a prank? What if a mishap occurred during the game? What if that girl doing this to lure us and trapped us into something horrible?"
Sofia rolled her eyes.
"What kind of horrible experience will happen? Do you forget? We are only playing a game. What's make you believe these kinds of things will attract ghosts and evil spirits? Even the chant is a bit childish."
"That's true. You're too paranoid, Jane." Maria chuckles.
"Jane's right. You guys, let's stop, okay? We need to think twice before playing the game." Thalia felt the area of the rooftops is a bit chilly than most areas in the college. By chilly is she didn't mean that place is windy or colder because of the night breeze, but there's a tingling feeling that had been disturbing her from the moment she entered this place.
The suspicious mist surrounding the place also carries a hint of a dangerous vibe that she couldn't grasp her hand on and causing her to worry even more than necessary. Something feels completely wrong. Yet, she didn't know the awful thing she had overlooked. "I am not joking. Something felt incredibly wrong."
Sofia and the rest ignored Thalia's words. They had known Thalia for about three years, since high school years. So, their adaptability to her weirdness never bothered them.
Once in a while, Thalia acted like someone with an emotional problem, as she will lashes out at them for disobeying her warning over a particular matter. But, most of the time, she is an ordinary girl with a timid personality.
"You guys!" Thalia raised her voice desperately.
"Enough, Thalia! If you want to step out, go back to your damn dorm and sleep! Don't force your idea on other people. We already discussed this matter before. And, we agreed, anonymously." Sofia lashed out at her.
Thalia shut her mouth. The next word gets stuck in her throat. She knows she could never overturn her friend's decision. They are stubborn. But, she is hoping for them to listen to her advice for the last time. And yet, her kindness is being ignored, and her friend yelled back at her. Tears started welling up in her moist eyes.
"Sofia, you're too harsh on her," Maria reprimands her friend. She sighed as she saw Thalia's crying face. "Mind your words, please."
"I hate her attitude. There are only two options regarding this matter. Yes, and we proceed. And, if no, if she is afraid of such consequence, just back out. I'm okay with such a thing. We already discussed this, right? We will not impose our ideas on others. Never forget, Thalia, this is our motto."
Rania claps her hand as she required her friend's attention right now.
"Stop fighting. We should play the game at midnight, yet, this is almost one o'clock in the morning. I will ask again for confirmation. Are you guys in or not?"
Sofia and Maria nodded their heads. Jane is awkwardly scratching her chin, and she is reluctantly agreed. Rania turned her head towards Thalia.
"Thalia, what about you?"
"I'm not going to do it," Thalia answered with a firm determination. "And, I will not proceed. Don't go blaming me if something indeed happened during the game. I already warned you guys. That girl is suspicious. You guys trusted the stranger more than your friend. I am disappointed with your action." She wiped her tears away as she turned to the door. At that moment, her vision caught on something in the building next to them. Her eyes widen in shock as she recognized the identity of that something.
"Thalia, you're kidding, right?" Rania never expected the timid Thalia to go against the group's decision. She plucked her courage from somewhere and decided to oppose them? Impressive. Usually, she will give up her resistance at the end of their argument and boarding the boat together while ignoring her initial fear. The girl had grown up.
Bang!
Thalia's back hitting the metal door abruptly as she unconsciously takes few steps backward.
"Thalia? What's wrong?"
"Ah...that...over there..." Thalia stuttered. Her finger pointed into somewhere as she had a terrified expression on her pale face. Her body is trembling uncontrollably. She could felt her legs turned into jelly.
Rania looked in the direction her friend is pointing. The next building is the boy's residential college, the Jupiter Building.
She sees nothing extraordinary. The rooftop over there is as empty as a barren desert. Darkness shrouded the area. Rania frowned as she glances back at her friend, whose face was as pale as a corpse.
"What's wrong with you? There's nothing on the other side of the building."
Thalia throws a glance of fear at her friends before running away hastily, leaving them dumbfounded on their place.
