Chapter 3

Walking from university, I hear a car honk. I turn around to find Hava and her brother, “want a ride?”

After contemplating my options, I thought it best to ride with them, maybe I’ll get some answers. He’s so striking to the eyes that it almost makes me wonder if it was him, it doesn’t seem like he has wrong intentions. It’s been a while since I’ve seen him outside of the manor but what’s to say he won’t come again.

“So, what’s your name?” I ask looking at him through the rear-view mirror.

He returns my gaze with his cold grey, almost pitch-black eyes, “Randall”.

Randall and Hava look nothing alike. Randall has a tanned skin but not olive like hers, a sharp jawline which tenses each time he catches me looking at him, high cheekbones, and black hair. He’s just as breath-taking, if not more but none of their features match, they couldn’t possibly be siblings or at least from the same parents. Hava gives me a Hispanic vibe whilst Randall gives me a European, maybe middle eastern vibe. Before I can continue my analyses, Hava speaks up.

“I know what you’re thinking, we’re adopted siblings”.

I nod my head before I look away in embarrassment, at least I was right.

The car pulls up to a petrol station and Randall starts to fill up the car. “Just a second, I’m going to pay inside”, Randall says.

This is my chance to get something out from Randall, “I’ll be back too”.

I walk in and find Randall waiting in queue, “What do you want?”.

“I beg your pardon” Randall says, his eyes digging into my soul.

“I used to see you always outside my house, you’ve stopped now but why did you before” I say, curiously. This was killing me inside; I can’t even make eye contact.

He tilts his head to one side, “I’ve never met you before”.

“You’re right, but I’ve seen you outside my property” I reply with knit eyebrows.

“Are you 100% sure it was me?”

“I’m quite sure it was you” I reply nodding my head.

“Yes, or no?” he says mockingly.

I sigh “no”.

Randall scoffs and looks back at the counter, “What I suggest is for you to install cameras and to stop accusing strangers”.

“I’m not an idiot, I know who I saw. My mums a lawyer and I can get you fined, maybe even arrested”, I fold my arms, looking directly at him.

“I know, Hava told me. Remind me again though, she’s not in your life… Is she?”

What?

“I-I-umm”. That’s all that could come out whilst I fluttered my eyelashes, looking anywhere but at him.

He lifts my head with his finger forcing me to look at him, “You’re right, you’re not an idiot but you’re definitely impulsive”, his finger leaves me chin but I continue to look at him, “learn to control it, if you’re planning to lead”.

“You don’t know me”.

“I know you more than you think, maybe more than yourself” Randall sighs and starts to take out his wallet, “take my word and don’t get involved in something you can’t finish”.

I storm out of the petrol station, dazed about what just happened. I hear Hava call after me but I’m too lost in my own thought to stop. “Let her go”, I hear Randall say. Instead of getting any answers I just got more confused. Was I wrong? I could’ve been after all it was dark when I saw him so maybe I was. How dare he bring my mother into this, THAT was something he shouldn’t have gotten involved in. By the time I make it home, the frustration is still there.

“You’re finally home”, I hear dad say as he walks out from the living room.

“Where were you?!” I say in frustration.

This was all his fault. I wouldn’t have met that big headed guy if dad had just picked me up.

“I didn’t know I was supposed to pick you up. Were you waiting for me?” He replies with his eyebrows crossed.

“No, I wasn’t!” I make my way past him and whisper to myself, “Everything wrong in my life is your fault”.

“Sienna did something happen?” dad says walking after me.

“Dad just leave me alone, please.”

“Come on hun, just tell me”.

“Dad, stop! You act like you care but if you really did, you wouldn’t have brought me here. Away from my friends. Away from mum. Come to think of it, you’ve never cared about me just like mum hasn’t. Only because of you two has this been the worst 3 months of my life.”

“That’s enough!” I see grandma walking down the stairs, “Sienna, how dare you talk to your father like that. You have no right. Your father didn’t take you away from your mother, she has always been an independent strong woman whilst your father has been a caring loving man. Whilst my love, you haven’t inherited ANY of those good qualities. Look inside yourself, have YOU cared about anyone besides yourself. For the past 3 months you’ve spoken about how much you hate this place, but have you looked at it more than a place. Maybe from others perspective. Learn to enjoy the present rather than dwelling on the past and ruining life for yourself as well as others. Now answer your father, did something happen?”

I take my eyes off the floor as a tear rolls down my face and look to where grandma is standing in front of me, the fierce woman that I’d once heard of, in front of me, “No grandma, I’m sorry,” I snuffle.

“Wrong person, the person you should apologise to is behind you”, she says whilst nodding towards dad.

I turn around to dad with my face starting to get covered in more tears, “I’m sorry dad”.

“It’s fine, Sienna” dad responds with a small smile.

My eyes become a waterfall as Dad comes and wraps his arms around me whilst whispering "It's okay love. I'm fine, today just wasn't your day". He was right, I am impulsive. Does he really know me better than I know myself?
