Well, Now I know that I'm fucked, But deep inside I'm excited about something. I did watched the show and read lots of fanfiction. So in a new world is very exciting.
After finishing my questions to the fisherman I started to leave, But he offered me breakfast, I was truly hungry so didn't refuse his kind offer. And ate the fish soup his wife brought me. It's was a little salty but my hunger overcomes that. I gave him a coin but he refused of course but I gave him anyway. His wife and son looked happy about that but he spoke that having greed for gold is dangerous.
Hmm.. he has a good amount of wisdom I must say.
Then I gave my farewell to the family and hit the road.
And outside of the village, I found a fish trader who has a wagon and few barrels of fish that he bought. And he's also going to the capital AKA kingslanding.
After talking to him about how far is the capital and other stuff I asked him if he could give me a ride.
He gave me a judgemental look at first, Then and a bright smile, and told me he would if don't mind the smells.
Well, jokes aside I can say he is a jolly character. So after getting his approval I sat in his left and the journey began.
He is a very curious man and also about my age, probably.
He asked me tons of questions, like why I came here to Westeros and how all that stuff. So I gave him some made-up backstory And I told him that I was born in a merchant family in essos and then become a prominent sellsword and some other made-up story about myself.
Then I enquired about him as well, And I learned his name was Rolf, an honest fish trader. Because of his occupation, I believed he might know about the currency system, So I asked him about the currency. Though I know he would be suspicious. after all, I just told him that I'm from a merchant family.
He explained to me that 1 gold dragon=30 silver moon or 210 silver stag. And 1 silver stag =56 copper penny. You can buy a loaf of bread with 2 pence and stay in a lower class in will cost 10 pence for one a day. So I'm currently loaded with money. And this fellow doesn't look very poor either.
So I exchange some money from him and give him 2 stag for his trouble.
We talked about lots of stuff and his favorite topic is a woman from a famous brothel and good she is in an entertaining job. Then I asked about the current king, And instantly his face change it to a grim one, So I asked him what is wrong. He told me that the king is succumbing to madness and sometimes burning people with wildfires. He expressed that some of those people did not even commit the crime that needs to be punish by death and none of them are allowed to take the black.
So after seeing that my new companion is not very interested in this topic, So I stopped our conversation about the king. And I and asked him if there's any tourney being held.
He answered that there is one that was recently announced. And it will be held a year from now, in the Riverland. My face lit up from the news, So I guess this is year 280 AC.
So what should I do? I'm a swordsman so I think it will be a good idea to compete in the tourney for melee.
But I won't join the jousting because I'm not very confident in that. I was lost in my thoughts how to prepare for it.
hmm .... I also need a helmet and other important things. And also need a way to earn some gold fast.
(Rolf the fish traders pov )
It was a nice day for travel, A good weather means good trade. That's what paa used to tell me but today is a strange day. After loading my wagon with goods, I met a tall knight or what could be looked like one, By the seven¡!! He is tall and looks gods damn intimidating.
Hmm... he is very handsome looking too.
And for some reason, he came to me and asked if I'm going to the capital. After confirming that I was, He politely asks If I could get him to capital and he will pay for the cost.
I thought for moments then, I don't mind actually. And from the looks of it, I can tell that he ain't going steal the fish that I'm carrying. So I told him that I can take him to the capital, if he has no problem with the smell of the fish. He laughed at my jest. hop on to the wagon.
But when he sat next to me, the wagon gives horrifying cracked noise that gave me nearly a heart stab!!!
If the wagon broke and he somehow injured by it my head will roll next to one of his big swords his.
But by the mother's mercy, it did not broke. And we started our travel. I was truly curious about the knight , So I asked few questions, not the personal one's of course, And the knight introduced himself as Ser Alan Winters.
And he's from Essos and made lots of coin from being a sellsword and wanted to travel to Westeros to see its wonder. Well, I lived in Westeros all my life and all I know is just Crownlands.
But It saddens me to hear that Ser Alan's ship caught by last night's storm and all of his companions died only he somehow survived.
I talked to him a lot and he's a good listener and a curious man as well. But sometimes he asked me lots of odd questions, Though I answered them nonetheless.
But if I think about it, He is from a different place and thus has limited knowledge of westeros , so I think that explains it.
After some topic about the king and the tourney, he's gone to his thinking world again. We took a short break and finish the food I brought from the fishing village he thanked me for it and wanted to pay me but I refused.
And it became nighttime we made our tent. And asked him if he needs to remove his armor? But he refused for different reasons. And told me to sleep, He'll keep the first watch.
Huh ... having a man like him does give some encourage to sleep in the woods.
But sometimes unexpected happens, In the night some shouting noise broke my sleep so then I came out of my tent.
but what I saw is simply horrifying...
I saw body's laying everywhere. Then from the corner, someone welding an ax came right at me.
But dropped dead before he could reach me and a dagger embedded in his back.
Then the blood-soaked knight approached me and explained that some bandit attacked us And ser Winters just killed them one by one with just a single swing of his sword.
And that night I realized what kind of monster he is. I did feel little relief that because of him I was alive. But seeing someone getting killed is very disturbing.
I never encountered any of these outlaws on this road, So trade with that fishing village was always safe. But I did heard some rumors about them a few days ago, buyt didn't mind them.
After finishing the outlaws, Ser Winters told me to search the corpse!!! nd I did, after counting the bodies, I found there is nine of them.
So When they attacked us, Six of them were killed by his sword mostly cut in half And others seeing something like that, Ran for their lives, But two were killed by Daggers embedded in their back. And lastly, One of bandit willingly surrendered. The night I could not sleep, Sigh...what a strange day indeed.
