Chapter 9: Adam Meets the Hunter

As Adam is in his killing spree, he failed to notice a pair of bloodshot eyes that is eyeing him. The hunter who had devoured the woman yesterday is observing the weird food from a distance who exudes fragrant scent and disappearing into nothing from time to time.

Hunters have little intellect and is a born predator. It will not rashly attack it's target like normal zombies but will instead go for fast and efficient assassination. Their claws are the sharpest blade and their speed is their greatest asset. A normal person being hunted by them stood no chance of survival. Even some evolutionary will lose their life in the hands of hunters.

The hunter is not interested with the skeletons. It's target is Adam who is in the center of the group that is in it's phantom state right now. The hunter had simple analysis of Adam. ' It's not a food if it doesn't smell anything.' Therefore it will not attack Adam in it's phantom state.

The hunter is lurking in the corners shifting places from time to time. It is waiting for the opportunity to finish Adam in one strike dragging it's body away from the group of skeletons then enjoy it's perfectly hunted prey. This is the basic operation of hunters, kill and retreat.

Adam unaware of the hidden danger undo his phantom state to try to fight with another group of zombies when suddenly a fast shadow jumped from the third floor of a building directly by passing the guard of the skeletons.

With it's claws in a knife blade posture, the hunter is aiming to decapitate Adam's head in one go.

Adam feeling the incoming danger with his enhanced senses block his dagger instinctively and the sound of metal clashing echoed in the street. After failing to kill Adam in one move, the hunter let out a piercing screech towards Adam preparing for another lunge. But the skeleton warriors who noticed the abnormalities of the zombie hunter directly dash towards it.

The hunter feeling the threat of the skeletons tried to escape but the siege of 50 skeleton warrior is not a joke. It's not even considering that each of these skeletons are multiple times more powerful than the hunter.

A skeleton immediately throw its bone sword towards the legs of the hunter cleanly cutting it of as its perfectly impale it's edge on the ground. Another skeleton with it's weapon made a flexible maneuver evading the reckless attack of the hunter in panic. The skeleton move on it's blind spot forcefully held it's head and ripping it apart from it's body. The body of the hunter twitched for few seconds before stopping while it's head was crushed barehanded by the skeleton.

Adam who was shocked on the side by the sudden attack from the hunter had cold sweat dripping on his back.

' That was so close for comfort!.. Heck! I wanna go home!! '

Ding!

" Congratulation host for killing a hunter! rewarding 1 token for killing a hunter for the first time and 1000 experience points."

It took quite a few seconds for Adam to regain his senses from the shock he received from the hunter.

After accepting the reality that he almost got hurt by a zombie, Adam approach the hunter's body not forgetting to turn on [ phantom traveller ]. ' I don't want another ambush like that okay!'

In front of Adam is a headless body that looks so thin and fragile if you will not take note of its razor like claws.

' Mama! These claws were the thing that almost touched my neck!' , Adam sweats again as he imagine his neck being cut by these razor like tofu. *shiver*

That short episode were seen by a group of survivor from another building. Gil, the team leader looked at Adam intently as if trying to understand the young man.

" If you analyze from that fight, you can say that the kid had very poor battle sense. Maybe he is a newly awakened that is trying to test his abilities on those ordinary zombies. Look, he also look thin and fragile, sign that he only had few food and water. " Jackson shared his view with the group.

" You may have the point. But a newly awakened with 50 skeletons with such abilities? One of those skeletons is way stronger than an average evolutionary. " Gil saying his doubt.

" He also become illusory and become untouchable, isn't his awakening way too powerful? " a woman said from the side.

Everyone is feeling very jealous of Adam's ability. But jealousy is jealousy, they don't have the capital to mess with Adam for they had even seen that Adam's body was pretty sturdy. They even doubt wether the claws of the hunter can penetrate deeper that Adam's muscle.

" I think we must try to approach him and see how it goes. Maybe he is a trapped survivor who awakened his power recently and only had the courage to go out now." the woman added.

Gil then weight the gain and losses if they approach Adam. If they can bring Adam to their base, safety will become greater and with Adam's power, many possibilities will emerge.

If Adam won't join them, he may also be reasonable enough not to kill them if he and his team will withdraw from here.

" Let's postpone the plan of approaching him for now. First we must secure the location of the mall and if there are supplies left. Maybe we can use it as a bargaining chip to pull him towards our camp." Gil proposed his plan.

The rest of the team see Gil's method to be reasonable and directly agreed with the plan.

" One more thing, if he join us, we can carry more supplies with his skeletons. We don't need anymore to return to the base to form another gathering team for retrieving the supplies for the kid have a lot of manpower to do so. " Jackson the buff middle aged man said with his face forming a carefree smile.

" Let's leave that for now and cross the bridge when we get there. Prepare to move out of here and continue the mission. "

Gil and his team then prepare their own things as they are going to locate the mall.

Adam on the other hand is continuing his killing spree to reach level 10.
