Chapter 40: Quirk assessment test (I)

"Shido, you have been positioned as class 1-A's assistant for teacher for this year, and the homeroom teacher would be someone you're familiar with."

Shido was currently at the principal's office together with a ew other teachers, and Nezu was delegating the roles for this year.

"Really? Is it Aizawa-sensei? The same as last year?"

"Yes, and I hope that the both of you won't expel anyone this year anymore..." As Nezu told him, he smiled wryly. Last year was an utter disaster, and the number of paperwork left behind by the mess that the dup caused wasn't small.

Shido heard him and smiled as well,"You know I can't decide that. It's all up to the students, but I think that this year has potential. Especially the ice guy and him."

The other teachers nodded at the mention of the 'ice guy', who was Shoto Todoroki, but was confused about who 'him' referred to. Nezu however, didn't show any traces of confusion and just merely nodded.

"I know, but still, at least give them a chance. No one was born strong after all, maybe except you."

Shido merely shrugged and nodded his head in agreement. "If there's nothing else, I will go wake Aizawa-sensei. This year's class should be fun!" After saying that, he immediately hopped out of the room towards the staff room.

He was supposed to be an assistant teacher last year as well, but due to certain circumstances, he was assigned a different role in the school, mainly helping out the other teachers. Thus, he had some experience in teaching and didn't think that this year would have much difference.

As Shido hopped out, the other teachers didn't react. They had seen Shido's behaviour for a year now, and were already used to it.

"Are you sure you want them together again?" Midnight asked Nezu.

"I'm also not too sure, but they do work well together and have similar interests and viewpoints. Apart from their eccentricity, they are good at what they do." Nezu shook his head, but his reply didn't match his actions. "I have faith in them. All they need is a trigger, and they would be able to push others to their highest potential. And I'm hoping that 1-A would do the job."

Midnight stared at him for a while before sighing,"Well, you're the principal after all. You can make your own decisions. I assume that we'll be teaching the same subject this year as well?"

"Yes. There'll be no change in schedule. If there is nothing else, all of you are dismissed and you may head over to your respective classrooms."

Along the way to the staffroom, he read the profiles that were given to him about the students he would be teaching this year.

"So his name is Shoto Todoroki...Todoroki? Endeavor's son? Interesting...ooh...Momo Yaoyorozu, the girl I met a few years ago. As expected, she managed to enter this class. There are some neat quirks this year, better than last year. Frog physique, laser shooter, sweet guy, invisibility? How did she manage to enter here? She must be creative..."

Shido kept muttering his thoughts to himself. Luckily, there wasn't anyone nearby currently, so no one thought that he was insane.

Upon reaching the staffroom, he knocked on the door before entering. The door, like any other facilities in the school, was huge. The door was about six meters tall and two meters wide, big enough to be able to fit almost anything that was needed for the hero course.

Of course, it wasn't his first time here so he didn't spare it much of its time. He immediately went towards Aizawa's desk, and as expected, he was taking a nap in his personal sleeping bag.

"Are you really that cold Aizawa-sensei? Why do you have to wrap yourself up like a caterpillar whenever I see you not doing anything?" Shido took a look at the caterpillar body before commenting.

"Shut it brat, I need my sleep or else my eyes would die from itchiness." Aizawa lifted his eyelids, revealing a pair of red eyes that seem to have not slept for a long period of time. "Why are you here anyway?Don't tell me..."

"Yep! I'm your partner again! Please take care of me for this year as well!" Shido said cheerfully as he raised his hands at him for a handshake.

Aizawa stared at him for a moment before taking his hand and shaking it,"Take care of me as well. Is it time now? Which class are we taking this year?"

Aizawa had no problems with Shido. They shared some common interests which included pets, cats in particular, and some down-to-earth view of things. The only thing which bothered him slightly was the fact that Shido was a bit too happy-go-lucky for his preference.

However, he didn't know what happened, but suddenly after one day, Shido's happy-go-lucky attitude was toned down. His personality didn't change much, but Aizawa felt that he became a bit more...mature?

Aizawa thought for a bit more before shaking his head. HIs change was good, so he didn't bother with it too much and focused on Shido's information.

"We're taking class 1-A this year, and they have some interesting people in there. I don't think we'll be expelling the entire class this year."

"Ooh, really? Let me see their information."

Shido passed the stack of profiles to Aizawa before he started carrying his sleeping bag on his shoulder and walking out. Aizawa, who was still in the sleeping bag didn't care and continued reading the profiles as fast as he could so that he could have more time to sleep.

It was a strange sight to behold, and everyone they walked past gawked at them. A young boy with light indigo hair carrying a sleeping bag with length twice his height on his shoulders, and an unkempt man wriggling inside the sleeping bag.

But it was mostly the new students who were gawking at them. The older students and the teachers had seen this plenty of time last year, but it was still weird to see this scene happening so naturally.

*****************

Shido and Aizawa had arrived in front of class 1-A, and were currently waiting for time to start before entering. Shido didn't want to enter too early so that he could observe some of their personalities, behaviours, cliques and other characteristics which could define them as heroes or not. If he were to enter early, everyone would just be shocked stiff, and he wouldn't be able to observe in their most natural state.

The reason why Aizawa didn't enter early was mainly because of the fact that he wanted to sleep more. Actually, scratch that. The fact that he wanted more sleep was all the reason he needed to not go to class early.

They blended in pretty well with the environment, with Shido hiding behind the sleeping bag and leaning against the wall, so no one could really notice them. Both of them were pros, a simple thing like hiding their presence was easy to do.

They, well, mainly Shido could hear them talk about random stuff ranging from the perverted antics of the grape boy and the electric boy, to the girl stuffs of the pink girl, to the cheerful round girl who was talking away about their examinations, not noticing Izuku stuttering hard and muttering nervously.

Before he could do anything else, Aizawa sensei, who was still lying horizontally on the ground outside the classroom, spoke up loud enough for the whole class to notice,"If you're gonna be hunting for buddies, do it elsewhere."

"This is," Aizawa took out a bottle of protein jelly from his sleeping bag and sucked it cleanly before continuing,"the department of Heroics!"

Everyone inside the class was speechless about the sudden appearance of two very unique people standing right outside their door. They watched as the child carried the sleeping bag and headed in the classroom.

At this moment, there was only one thought going through their heads.

'Who the hell...are these guys!!!?'

"Hmmm, it took you lot eight seconds to quiet down. Life is short kids, you're all lacking in common sense." Aizawa continued speaking as he unzipped his sleeping bag, revealing his tall physique and dressed fully in black, with a scarf wrapped around his neck. His face revealed a listless expression, devoid of grit and passion.

"I'm your homeroom teacher, Aizawa Shota. Pleasure to meet you."

"And I'm Itsuka Shido, your assistant teacher! Pleasure to meet all of you face to face as well!"

The class gasped in surprise as they thought that only pro heroes were teaching in this school. The tall teacher could at least be a pro hero, even if they never heard of him before, but the child was also a pro hero?

But before any of them could speak up, Shido told them,"Before any of you are going to ask, don't doubt any of the teachers in UA. We are all genuine pro heroes, so keep your doubts away. And if you are wondering why Aizawa-sensei is dressed up like this, all I can say is, at UA, teachers have a high degree of freedom in their actions since they are highly trusted."

Hearing Shido, all the students made a mental note. They still couldn't believe that a child was a pro hero, but since Aizawa didn't say anything about his words, they kept their doubts to themselves for now.

Aizawa, seeing that the students had all shut up and then kept silent, nodded and then said listlessly,"Well, get ready because we will test your quirks now."

The girl who came in last, the round-faced girl exclaimed,"A test of our quirks? Is there no inauguration? What about the ceremony? And the guidance counsellor meeting?"

"If you want to be heroes, we don't have time for frilly niceties. You all understand the school's reputation for freedom on campus. Well, as Itsuka-sensei mentioned earlier, that 'freedom' goes for us senseis as well."

"..." The classroom went silent.

Seeing that none of them had any other questions left, Aizawa nodded his head towards Shido and spoke,"Well, wear these immediately." He pointed towards the gym attire that Shido had taken out from his sleeping bag and continued,"After wearing these, shove off to the PE grounds." As soon as he spoke, he nodded towards Shido again before leaving.

Shido had taken out all twenty gym attire before saying,"Follow me, I'll be guiding all of you to the changing room now."

As they walked towards the changing rooms, he said,"You guys might want to hurry. Aizawa-sensei doesn't exactly have the highest amount of patience."

"Are you really a pro hero? What is your hero name?" The girl with pink skin could not help it and asked him enthusiastically.

"I'll tell you guys after you come back from the test of quirks. For now, it'll be a surprise for all of you." Shido placed his index finger on his lips and smiled mysteriously.

"YOU BASTARD! WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE?! YOU'RE JUST A CHILD! STOP KIDDING YOURSELF ALREADY! YOU THINK ANYONE CAN JUST BE A PRO HERO?!" The blond hair guy shouted explosively.

'As I expected, an explosive temper paired with an explosive quirk. How fitting.' Shido thought to himself.

Shido decided to ignore this guy and pointed towards the two doors who were next to each other. "These are your changing rooms for the year. The one on my left is for girls, and the other is for boys. Well, see you guys soon!"

"WAIT! HOW DARE YOU IGNORE ME!"

Shido simply ignored him, and just hopped over to the PE ground.

Seeing their sensei leaving, they immediately rushed to the changing room and hurriedly got dressed. None of them wanted to leave a bad impression on the teachers.

"What do you guys think Itsuka-sensei's hero name is?" Hanta Sero asked the rest of the boys in the changing room.

"How would we know? Even I know that a child can't be a hero, and if he was really a hero, he would have been famous already. For all we know, he could just be lying." Minoru Mineta stated as he looked at the wall separating both changing rooms, searching for holes or cracks which would allow him to look into the female's changing room.

"No. He's a true pro hero."

You know, I always seem to forget about poor Yoshinon. I need to be reminded to include Yoshinon into the story.
