Umbra

Umbra sat on her throne, her red-brown tail dangling on to the floor. A medium-sized dragoness entered the room upon her mother's command. Umbra knew that Jay Bird and Quinn we're bursting with excitement to meet the jungle-dwelling dragon.

"What is your name, young Rainwing?" Queen Ibis asked.

"P-Pineapple, your majesty," She said. Her scales seemed to be constantly shifting colors before landing on an awkward pale green, while her head and upper neck faded to yellow.

"And why are you here, Pineapple?"

The Rainwing seemed to get increasingly uncomfortable when her name was mentioned. "I-I have a message from... uh..." She went silent for a moment. "Q-Queen Percival."

"And what does the message speak of?"

"T-There's been a fire, lit by the Skywings. We're worried of it happening again. We need somewhere to move our dragonets."

Ibis opened her mouth, then closed it. This repeated multiple times. Quinn and Jay Bird exchanged a worried glance. Umbra was stunned by the request. She was fully aware of the current was between the Seawings, their allies and the SkyWings, but the Mudwing had done everything they could to stay neutral. Umbra stared up at her mother. Queen Ibis glanced back. Umbra looked at her siblings. If she was to be the next queen, and they were to sit beside her on the throne, she needed to learn how to make decisions. Quickly, she analyzed the situation. The Rainwings had no way to escape fire, and the Mud Kingdom was fairly close to the ocean. Umbra nodded to her mother, who thought for a moment, sighed, and returned her gaze to Pineapple.

"Your dragonets and their guardians may stay here, but your soldiers may not set up camp on our territory."

Pineapple's entire body shifted to pale yellow. "Thank you, your majesty!"

Queen Ibis only nodded.

Half a hour later, Umbra and her siblings wandered the halls of the Mudwing palace, discussing the morning's events.

"What if they end up not listening? What if the Skywings attack us?" Umbra worried.

"Queen Percival wouldn't put her dragons in danger without good reason. Besides, our army is double that of hers. If she were to attack, she'd be doomed!" Jay Bird reassured her.

"Ya! Besides, if they attacked us, they'd lose their allies." Quinn agreed.

"I'm just... worried. But, you guys are probably right. I have to sound like a Nightwing right now, worried about all the possible futures!"

"Ya! You're all 'Mwahahahaha, I can read your mind and see your future!'" Quinn joked.

"Well, I know your future will involve me catching you!"

And so the trio of dragonets raced through the palace halls.
