Kaden ran over to the king's study room anxiously. The guards initially did not allow him in, but the king ordered them to let him in.
"Where is Deric? Where is he?" he glared at him intensely.
"He is in a safe location," Rukle whispered with a sigh.
"Where!!" Kaden charged to him, but the king's guards all held him back.
"Kaden, he is safe and unharmed. Don't worry so much,"
"You captured my prince and you are telling me that he is safe! King Rukle he came here trusting you with his life is this how you repay him?" Kaden pushed the king's guards all away. These were the men he had trained and the ones who trained with him. All might be friends, but now could compare to him as Deric. "Let him go. We shall go somewhere else.... please,"
"I—I can't do that..." Rukle walked closer to him and patted his stiff shoulders. "Let's talk alone. All you of leave,"
"Your majesty!!" the guard all bowed deep refusing to leave.
"It's okay, I trust him. Please leave us," the guards reluctantly left, throwing glares at Kaden. "Kaden, sit,"
Kaden stiffly sat on the meeting chair. His legs anxiously shook as he peered at the calm king. "Where is he?"
"Deric is currently a host to a malicious demon. His mental health is in a bad state. It's... it's better to keep him safe." The King slowly explained.
Kaden suddenly laughed out loud. "So you named him a madman and chained him up, right? How are you any different from Lijin? Fuck, he should not have put all his trust on you. You are but a hypocritical king," he stormed out of the door breaking the door on the way out.
The guards all glared at him, but he was least bothered. He strode over to his room and sat on his beg. Legs shaking anxiously, he peered out the window. "Where might they have kept him.... even his room is empty?.."
Suddenly he felt a small cold hand touch his nape. He jumped and pulled that person under him, placing a knife to his neck.
"Whoa, Kaden, chill it's me," Fang waved at him with a wide smirk. "Hey what's wrong? Did you cry? Aww did you miss me so much that you are moved to tears?,"
"N—no, Deric.... he... he," Kaden stuttered.
Fang sat up and pushing him off. "He what? Kaden, what happened to Deric?"
"They captured him," Kaden sobbed silently leaning against his shoulders "he was just a dispensable pawn to them... Fang, we were so wrong. We should not have come here,"
"Enough sobbing," Fang pushed him away. "I will go search for him. You stay here, try to listen to the walls. We need as much as news as we can,"
Fang ran out the room to the room he was most familiar with.
"Fang! Come in, I was just about to drink tea," the queen kindly welcomed him in.
"Your highness, I am not in the mood to entertain tea with you. I need to know what you have done to Deric."
The queen sighed and gestured for him to come close. "Rukle said that he is being held in a secret chamber under our royal tree,"
"Under? Where?"
"It's below ground. It's safe and I know that he is being treated for his illness," she tried calming him down, but Fang bowed at her respectfully.
"Thank you.. thank you so much for everything until now. We shall take our leave form here,"
"Wait, you plan to take him away? Fang, I don't think that's a good idea. The moment Deric steps out of the royal castle borders, he will be treated as traitor and shot down. Even you will be the same," she held his hands softly. All these months, he had been her sole company when she travelled through distant lands. She had grown fond of him and thought of him as her own child. "Please do not be rash. Deric really is sick. If he is not healed properly he might have recursions,"
"I know what to do, your highness. Thank you for being so kind to me," Fang removed her hand and left the room.
The same night they planned to take Deric In at the veil of darkness.
Kaden hid behind a huge world tree and peaked out. Just outside the castle tree there was a small hole that led down to the underground dungeons as per Fang's information Deric was being kept there. 'Bastards, keep him in a dungeon and claim that he is being treated,' he bit his lips, holding back his anger.
In the middle of the night when the security patrol team changed, he sneaked in the hole. He did not know the structure of the dungeons, so he blindly walked in.
In an interception, he almost ran into the guards who were slacking from duty.
"Darn, my ear is ringing. Why the hell is he screaming like that, huh? Didn't the mages take a look at him? He is still in that state," one guard whispered.
"Don't you know? I heard from someone that he is infested with a malicious type of demons that attacks the mind. Om pretty sure that he will go crazy by the next two days," another guard sighed and pulled his friend over to other area to guard their post.
Kaden took this chance to sneak in. 'they were talking about Deric....' he slowly walked in the path the two guards came from.
He entered a well-lit hallway.
"AHHHH!! AHHHHHHH KILL YOU ALLLLL!!!!" a loud scream startled him a little.
"Deric," he worriedly ran to the direction of that scream. He came across a small room that was completely sealed with magic markings. He easily broke them all and entered.
The inside was completely dark with a small lit candle rolling on the ground. "Deric?"
A small scratching sound came from his right, and suddenly someone grabbed him by his throat and pinned him to the wall. "Kaden.... run..." Deric tiredly whispered, panting. Drool dripped down his mouth and his eyes drifting back in delirium.
"Deric snap out of it. What did they do to you?"
"ka—den run.... go,"
"Not without you silly," he knocked out Deric and pulled him over his shoulders. He dashed out without taking a look back. He was almost caught by few guards but he escaped miraculously.
Fang had promised to meet him out of the dungeons. He had been given the duty to distract the knights and guards when he brings Deric out.
The plan went without a hitch, and Kaden met up with Fang.
"What happened to him? Why is he unconscious?" Fang worriedly wiped Deric's clammy forehead.
"We will talk later," they snuck out the royal perimeters, avoiding all the guards. But by mistake a guard had stayed back to pee, saw them.
Kaden moved quickly to finish him, but the guard escaped skilfully and shouted alerting the others.
"Shit, shit, let's go!!" Fang pulled him and to the other direction. While running, a lot of arrows swished past them, missing them by just an inch.
They ran until the guards were left behind.
Panting, Fang laughed softly. "We made it... but where are we going after this..."
"Somewhere far... somewhere away from her. Maybe the border to the demon realm. The others might not find us there," Kaden said with a smile.
"Yeah..." Fang smiled and kissed him softly. "We can be farmers. I always wanted to grow potatoes..."
"Potatoes it is," Kaden kissed him with renewed passion. "I missed you so much..."
"So did I love," Fang caressed his face, memorising all his details. But a small glint at the back of his head caught his eyes.
A guard on a griffin aimed a spear at them.
"Kaden!! Watch out!!" Fang pushed him and Deric out of the way. But this did not give him time to escape the speeding weapon.
Kaden watched with eyes wide as Fang got speared through. "FANG!!!! no!!" he hugged him tight. His lover had already stopped breathing.. His blood bloomed like a roe under him painting the green grass in a red hue.... gritting his teeth, he pulled the weapon out and threw it directly at the guard. It pierced him and his griffin at the same time.
"Fang!! Please wake up.... let's go grow potatoes... let go..." he cried loudly, hugging his chilling corpse.
His desperate cried woke Deric up. He glanced at his blurry environment with a frown. "Kaden...."
"Deric... Fang.. Tell him to wake up.. tell him to come back..." he sobbed slowly pulling his friend close.
Deric saw his best friend's cold corpse with a blank eye. He could not think for a moment... "Why is he.... hey Fang, get up. Don't bully Kaden.. get up," he shook his shoulders. But the cold corpse did get up and scream in surprise as he had expected.
"Fang... Fang...." Deric gently held his open hand.
Kaden noticed few steps coming their way... he pulled Deric, but he remained hugging Fang's corpse. "He is gone... he is gone, Deric lets go. We have to live and avenge him.."
Deric blankly walked with him. Kaden lifted him over his back and ran away.
Watching the trees move in and out of his vision, Deric felt perplexed. 'What did I do? I did not deserve to lose everything like this.... Fang... he died because of me,'
The dark shadow he had controlled emerged again. 'Avenge him!! Kill them all!! They only deserve death!!! No one should stand in your way!! Listen to me!!' it growled loudly in his ringing ears.
"y—yes..... I shall kill... I will kill them all," he blankly whispered.
