Adonis's POV
I am glad my parents left, but it didn't stop me from feeling sad. I want them to be with us to celebrate this beautiful day. I didn't get the chance to tell them I am engaged with Maya. I should respect my parents, but I don't think it is disrespectful to marry the girl I love. I understand our parents were the ones who brought us into this world, but I don't think they have the right to choose whom I am going to love because it is a feeling that I cannot dictate. Maybe, unless I am in love with a girl, that will bring danger to our family. But Maya is a kind-hearted woman and selfless, and wife material.
The Hernandez family has long gone, but I remain seated on the patio chair on our front porch, and I am watching the plantation before me. I know I have to beg my parents to accept Maya, and I need to do it soon.
