Unexpected Invitation

Maya's POV

I wake up so energetic and so happy because I was texting with Adonis last night and I can feel he likes me, and at this moment I can tell he was not playing any more games. It is customary for me to prepare breakfast and I took a bath and I stay so long staring at my reflection in the mirror, as usual, I am still wearing worn-out clothes since I don't have any brand-new clothing. I will work in the fields the whole day, but I will use different clothes provided by Donya Esmeralda.

I comb my hair and I borrow a lip gloss from Mary's pouch; I don't mind about my physical appearance before, but I wonder why now, well, the reason is so obvious, Adonis Monleon is making me an unusual person in a good way. I try to let my hair cascades on my back, but I opted to a ponytail, my long black hair for I became so conscious of my hair that will become so messy since Adonis will pick me up again. The moment I heard his car stop in front of our little house, I got out quickly from my room and informed my grandma I am on my way to the Hernandez Estate.

"Hello! Sunshine!" Adonis greeted me as he opens the door for me.

"Good morning, Young.. Adonis." I stutter because he already asked me not to call him Young Master when we are alone.

"Good morning, Maya, it should use you calling me Adonis, I noticed you almost called me Young Master again, please drop it, Maya." He declared, and I am so glad that he is still in a good mood.

"I'm sorry, I am trying my best, it has been so long that I call you Young Master, so I am so used to it." I replied.

"It is okay, I understand." He spoke as he drives the car away from our house.

"You better accept me as your boyfriend, so you can start calling me, Babe." He added and his masculine voice makes me get excited, and I can feel goosebumps on my skin, and I like it. I can't stop myself from smiling while watching the plantation we passed by.

"You are silent, it means I don't have my luck now, but I don't care as long as I see your beautiful face my day is complete, but it would be brighter if you will become my girlfriend, I know you have your reasons, Maya, but I wish it won't take so long for I can't wait to have you as my girlfriend." He said.

"I am sorry, but definitely not today, Adonis. I thought you would not pick me up now since I made you upset." I declared.

"Maya, I was not perturbed, I told you I can wait, so don't worry, I am going to prove to you how patient I can be just for you."  He responded, and he takes my hand and hold it until we reach the Hernandez Mansion, and I can appreciate his warm palm on my hand and I never felt this happy. Adonis makes me feel so special.

"By the way, Maya, can I take you on a date later tonight?" He said and as he was about to go back on his car after he opened the car door for me. I am stunned that he will get me somewhere and his invitation took me off guard, I didn't expect any of this.

"Where are we going?" I asked, and I can't stop the rapid beating of my heart.

"I want to take you to dinner." He said.

"I'm sorry Adonis, I can't, I'd love to go out with you and have dinner, but you know I have so many things to do at home." I replied, and I am devastated that I can't have some fun with him.

"Relax, I already take care of everything, you don't need to worry about you will find it out later what I mean." He spoke and left smiling boyishly before I can protest.

"Hmm! I am certain you will have a wonderful day ahead, Maya since you look so happy right now." Rich said the minute we see each other, and he is looking at the car of Adonis as it moves away from the mansion.

"Good morning, Rich, aren't you please that I am getting along with your best friend?" I asked, and I am still beaming at him, and it seems it is hard for me to stop myself from smiling.

"Of course, I am so thrilled for you and Adonis." He said, and I raised my eyebrow.

"Why, you looked so surprised, Maya? He is my best friend, and he asks permission from me to date you." He said, and I couldn't believe Adonis did that.

"What?" I asked, and I can't hide my confusion about why he needs to ask for approval from Rich.

"Yes, he thought, I have plans in courting you." He replied, and I am so shocked at this revelation.

"What made him think we were an item." I said.

"Hello, Maya! Can't you see your reflection in the mirror? Because you are beautiful, smart, and hardworking, Adonis believed I have feelings for you, I told him I care about you like a sister." He responded and smiled at me, then tapped my shoulder.

"Me too, I like you Rich, but like an older brother." I replied.

"I am glad you feel that way too, Maya, I know we are friends, but as we get closer, I am thinking about you as my sister that I couldn't have." He explained.

"Thank you, Rich, for always being there for me." I said, and I grin at him.

"Of course, Maya, and I hope one of these days you will accept some financial support from me." He answered.

"Don't worry, I will, if I can't take it anymore, but your mother provided me work, so I think I will pass." I replied, and I know I get him disappointed, for how many times Rich and Ariana offered and gave me money, but I always turn them down, and I return the cash to them untouched.

That is why later they gave it to my sister without telling me, and Mary is so eager to spend it was already gone the moment I found out the truth. I reprimanded her for how many times, but she keeps on doing it since my friends always insisted. Sometimes, they bought groceries for us, I admire their kindness, but I believe it is my duty and responsibility to take care of my grandparents and sister since I am the older one.

"Okay, but I just want to remind you, it is not bad to accept help from your friends." He said and turn his heels away from me. I felt so relieved that Lisa was wrong about Rich feelings for me, she said Adonis and Rich both like me, I am glad he only likes me as a friend and a sister that he couldn't have because if he has romantic affections for me, I can't reciprocate it since I am so crazy about his best friend.

I saw Jocelyn standing on the porch, and I understand Donya Esmeralda called her attention I didn't notice her since I was so lost in space thinking about Adonis's sudden invitation. Together we walk in going to the flower farm, and I close my eyes when I smell the fragrance of the blossoms as we pass by, the summer flowers are blooming, and I can't take my eyes from them, especially the roses.

"I don't want to pry, Maya, but we are friends, so the rumors were true, Adonis Monleon is courting you?" She asked, and I don't feel offended by her question because we are friends and I can see it in her eyes she is happy for me.

"Sort of, but." I paused.

It "But what?" She inquired again.

"We are not a couple yet since I want to make sure about all this." I replied.

"Wow! I think if I were in your shoes, I accepted him already before he can ask me to be his girlfriend. She said, and I can't stop myself from laughing since I find her confession so funny.

"Don't get angry with me, Maya, but you know Adonis is a total package, I don't care how wealthy he is, but he is so handsome and gorgeous, Maya, he is the epitome of perfection. And most of the ladies here in San Antonio were crazy about Adonis and Rich, so what are you waiting for?" She asked, and I can't stop myself from beaming at her.

"Well, maybe timing." I lied, she doesn't know about my history with Adonis, only our close friends and the children of the farmhands in the Monleon Hacienda.

"Maya, just a piece of advice go for it, if you break up in the end, you should be proud to be called the ex-girlfriend of the Monleon Heir, besides you are too young to be afraid to get hurt, Maya. Being hurt is part of loving, so don't waste your time. Think about the good things that will happen once he became your boyfriend." Jo said, and I just smile at her as we near the greenhouse since we need to have some seedlings today.

I don't care about being tired from working because I am so happy with the plants so even though I'm sweating a lot because of the heat of the sun's rays I am still inspired. After all, I am expecting to spend my evening with Adonis.
