"Was it too selfish of me..."

I was immersed in my own thoughts when I found my group waiting for me patiently. I could tell that they were curious by their expressions. I also noticed Ken staring at someone, or something, as if he was lost in some deep thought for the moment. He was quiet far away for me to decipher what exactly he was looking at.

"You alright?" I asked him as soon as I was in their vicinity.

"What..?" He was startled by me. "Me? I'm fine, what would happen to me? Haha" he faked his laugh as he tried to convince me.

Even though Ken was so friendly, ironically he was also a private person. I didn't think it would be appropriate of me to pester him further, especially when Zach and Jeanine were with us.

"I think we should return now, I'm really exhausted for the day." I told them. This place was meant for fun, but I was not that fun for me anymore.

They agreed with me, and even though Jeanine was dying to ask me about my daughter, she tried her best to hold herself back. It was nice of her to try, even when she loved gossiping so much. All she asked me about my daughter was, what was her name.

I did not fail to notice that Ken was very quiet on our way back, and to give him space he needed, I interacted with those two as much as I could. We separated on the stairs and went to our respective rooms.

I asked Ken to spend rest of the time with me, but he insisted he will go to his own room. Not quiet convinced I followed him, just to see for sure what he was planning to do. I found him going upstairs towards the terrace, and out of curiosity I followed him to the terrace as well.

I saw Ken standing on the edge and staring at particularly nothing as if he was immersed in some deep thought, contemplating something. He didn't even notice me, even when I was standing right next to him.

"Lying is not a good quality you know." I pouted, trying to start the conversation on a light tone.

He looked at me and gave me a very faint smile. "What are you doing here? I thought you were headed back to your room." He asked me.

"I can ask you the same thing." I shrugged. "last time I checked this terrace was not your room." I raised my eyebrows at him.

He rolled his eyes but remained quiet, so I continued the conversation by myself.

"I've known you only for a few months, but I can tell something is bothering you. You could try sharing with me, you know. I am a good friend, trust me." I tried to get some answers. I don't think I would be able to change whatever was bothering me, but whenever I shared my problems with them, it made me feel better, and I was hoping to do the same for him.

"I was just, thinking...." He shrugged. "...about my past."

"Suddenly?" I asked him. "Is it related to whatever you saw in the park?"

He looked at me abruptly, surprised that I noticed that tiny detail. He nodded at me before he spoke.

"They were my family members, at the park." He sighed. "I've never met them as a human, but still it was odd seeing them today there."

"Family members? related how exactly?" I tilted my head.

"That was my nephew with his wife and his children." He smirked. I nodded awkwardly as I realised how odd it sounded given his twenty year old appearance. If he was still alive he would actually be old enough to be called my uncle. "But that's not all, you interacting with your daughter, reminded me of the time I died."

I tilted my head and furrowed my brows together in confusion, not quiet sure how that was related.

He continued. "My mom passed away when I was young. Not as young as your daughter, but still pretty young." He sighed. "When I came back here, after becoming a ghost, a part of me hoped I would see her again, That she came back to watch over me after she died.

Of course I was dissapointed, but I keep wondering... was it too selfish of me to wish that she stayed back just for me?"

"I don't think so, I think even when we lose our parents we believe they are watching over us all the time. Maybe she didn't get a choice to come back."

"She died the similar way I did, so if I got a chance, its highly possible s did she." He mumbled.

I knew what that meant, his mother, just like him, committed suicide as well. She decided to move on, to let go of everything, while he decided to stay back, for whatever reason that was. I wanted to know more, but I was glad that he shared already so much, I did not want to push too much.

"That reminds me, I've been meaning to ask you, how did you get Margaret to trust you? Was she always okay with you?"

He nodded. "She said she knew me even when I was human, that she has seen me grow up." He chuckled. "Honestly, it was me who did not trust her at the beginning"

I snorted at that. What a reversal of situation.

"Well look at that, you always had Margaret looking out for you." I smiled. "Believe me she cares about you way more than she cares about anyone else."

"I know, I'm lucky to have her in my life, or death since I am not technically alive. I guess, she is kind of like a surrogate mom."He chuckled.

"Yeah, and she is very good at it. She is so strict even I feel like she is my mom sometimes, and I don't think she is even that much older that me." We both laugh at that.

"Yeah." Ken appeared in a much better mood now.

I have been really absorbed in my own issues past few months, but I would really like to get to know everyone better. And if possible I would like to help them, whenever needed, just like they helped me. It felt really nice to bond with him.
