The Witch

The famous witch, Marie Catherine Laveau, was born free in the French Quarter of New Orleans on 10 September 1784 and died on 15 June 1881 at the ripe old age of 97. She was the daughter of two free Creoles of Color. After the death of her husband, she became a hairdresser who catered to wealthy white families. She also volunteered as a nurse during the yellow fever and cholera epidemics, and her deep knowledge of herbology and potions helped save many who would otherwise have died.
