Chapter 4. Magic Sense

I thought that was the last thing I'd ever heard. My heart almost leaped out of my chest. It seems like the entire world slowed down. This explosion happened inside of me. If I could better describe it it was like my eyes were opened for the first time. I could finally see this world I had been blind to open up. I could see my magic and his and the massive disparity between us. My magic was like a grain of sand in the desert. This monster was barreling towards me with the intent to kill. I got to do something I don't know what but something. Move!!! body moveeee!!!

"Black Hole: Giga impact"

Theo disappeared from Hiro's sight again but Hiro knew where he was. Hiro could sense him but his body wasn't fast enough to react. Hiro screamed at his body to move but he was frozen in place. He couldn't dodge but with all his might he pulled back. He fell and barely missed the punch from Theo.

"So it has awakened good."

"Well yeah! if something didn't happen from nearly killing me it'd have been a waste"

"This ability and how you now see the world is your magic sense. Every species has this in some form or another. Sensing magic is the first step in learning how to control it."

"Why is my magic so small?"

"I didn't give you magic I gave you the spark to start gaining magic. Demihuman babes have that spark. The trouble for humans is creating it and building it."

"So does this mean my magic is growing?"

" Well no. You just did the fundamental step in understanding magic. If I compared this to swimming you just recognized that there is water. You haven't gotten in or learned how not to drown. "

" How am I supposed to gain magic anyways I thought this restrains would just suck out any magic I built anyways. "

"Think of magic like shooting an arrow the more you shoot the more accurate you become. Your arm strength grows and your technique improves."

"Okay so I'm following so far but what does this have to do with controlling magic. I have a bow with no arrows."

"Use your magic sense to recognize the place in your body where your magic is located. Then direct that energy out. Let's start with your hand first. Direct the energy out of your palm to move this rock."

Theo picks up a small rock and places it I'm the center of his hand.

"Magic is made of energy that we direct into and elementa to create phenomena like spells, and incarnations."

Theo makes the rock float above his hand then spins rapidly.

"This is energy control the stronger and more

precise the control the better the outcome of a spell when used with elementa. This shouldn't be too hard because all it requires is energy. If you're able to move the rock or float it your magic should increase. The more the train it the stronger it'll become. "

"All I have to do is move this pebble?"

"Precisely and oh another thing I'd have a seat if I was you the first time can be rough"

Hiro sat on the ground and crossed his legs staring at the pebble.

This should be easy all I have to do is focus on the pebble and sense my magic. This shouldn't be impossible but it's like every time I focus on my magic the further away it is.

Hiro focuses on his magic trying to move the energy into his palm.

...cmon..... .... and nothing this isn't working why is this not working??

Frustrated Hiro throws the pebble and Theo catches it.

"What's wrong boy? Giving up already?"

"My energy is disappearing every time I try to focus on it."

"Did you forget about your precious little arm decorations? The more magic you use the more they absorb. They drain your magic and get heavier in the process. The effect is minimum because your magic isn't that strong yet."

"So you're saying the more magic I put out the more I lose?"

"Basically but It'll help you grow your magic. The more magic you output the less of an effect the restrains will have of you. "

"It's like I'm trying to light a candle and something keeps blowing out the flame."

"How might you build the flame then?"

Hiro was silent and he thought how he could make it grow.

Magic is in everything around me and I don't have much magic myself. If you want to build a flame you need to add fuel and air to make it grow bigger. What would the equivalent be for magic?

Hiro contemplated his idea of magic. He thought it'd be easier if he could just pull magic from somewhere else.

"You said magic is in everything right?"

" This place is abundant in it."

"You said I needed energy to make this pebble float..."

Suddenly Hiro widened his eyes and realized a solution to his problem. With a big grin on his face, he closed his eyes and focused. The wind slowly started moving passed Hiro. Energy surged around him and the pebble began to float it was shaky and unpolished but it became to float.

"You're finally starting to get it, boy"

"You never said that I had to use my magic to make it float. So I thought if I didn't have enough magic that I could just borrow some from everything else. "

"Energy attracts energy and magic attracts magic. You use the magic you have inside you to manipulate the magic outside your body and thus your magic is limited by how much magic you have inside you. Luckily you can make it stronger. "

The restrains get heavier and put Hiro and the floor to the point he can't lift his arms or legs.

"Look boy I think your magic got a little stronger. I want to tell you something before you get all cocky. This place is overflowing with magic however the rest of the world doesn't have magic this strong. So it won't be so easy to just manipulate it as it is here."

"So that's why we're training here."

"Otherwise it'd take you humans ten years or so just to understand the concept of using magic to manipulate other magic and another 20 it be able to do it with any power or accuracy. "

"What do you mean by you humans? aren't you human also?"

"It doesn't matter. You should worry more about how you're going to move your body."

"How am I supposed to move like this?"

"That boy requires more control over the magic you have. Control the output and you'll be able to move. Your restrains are absorbing magic too quickly. I'll help you this time. Your magic is tiny but the magic you're pulling in from the environment makes your restrains think you have more magic than you do and suck out all of your magic. Control the flow of magic and you should be able to move."

"So all I have to do is pull in less magic? That's going to be easy!"

"I said to control the magic all that means is balance your magic with the magic around you. "

I don't understand what he's talking about but I guess all I can do is have a trial by fire. Balance is key to being able to move. Somehow I have to balance my magic and the external magic. Here we go...

"Magic Sense!!!!"
