The Battle of the Red Cliffs

Two weeks passed by and the preparations were set for the incoming battle with anyone wise that Yun's ships were carrying dry wood in them.

Yun was at the forefront of the formation with a tenth of his army split on more ships wearing no armor at all while most of his men stayed on dry land awaiting the disaster that would soon befall their Lord.

"I did good, didn't I," says Pang Tong being beside Yun since he is the main strategist and needed to be at the front to be able to swiftly change strategy if needed.

"You did," says Yun knowing that all ships were linked to this main ship holding all the ships together.

This ship would be Cao Cao's doom since the chains could only be released from this ship and once this ship is set on fire nobody would be able to release the chains holding the ships together until they are all sunken in the river.

"So when will Cao Cao give the order to attack?" asks Yun as he wanted to get this battle behind himself to get back home to bury his son.

"The order will arrive in some days when all the ships are chained together. Until then you will have to play the waiting game," says Pang Tong when Yun pushes him to the side making appearances for everyone showing that they still are enemies.

Yun then left as he began to prepare for the worst which could be his death by drowning while waiting for the day Cao Cao would finally give the order to attack.

The days passed and the formation was ready when Cao Cao finally gave the order after communing with Huang Gai so they could execute the strategy flawlessly what Cao Cao didn't know was that Pang Tong also sent hidden information to Huang Gai telling him to attack the ships which were hissing the Zhao banners.

The day came and Cao Cao ordered a night attack trying to catch the enemy off-guard only to soon find out that he would be the one off-guard.

Yun was moving his ships forward toward the other river bank when he saw Sun Quan's army coming toward him. One squadron of ships moved solitary toward him which must have been Huang Gai making Yun take a deep breath.

He saw Huang Gai and his ships getting closer when he shouts, "Remove armor!"

Everyone was confused except for Yun's men who followed through the command when they saw the ships coming toward them were set on fire as they collided with Yun's ships breaking the ships while setting them on fire when Yun shouts, "Jump from the ships!"

Yun's men followed the command and jumped from the ship while Yun continued standing on his ship making sure that the fire would spread as he wasn't the main protagonist of this battle but Huang Gai and Zhou Yu.

Yun was only giving them a helping hand when he hears a familiar sound coming from some ships which were sailing under the banner of Gan.

"It seems, Gan Ning finally uses his secret weapon again," says Yun recognizing the sound as cannon firing upon them as he hears wood being shattered under the cannonballs impacting on them.

Yun saw how some ships began to pick up Huang Gai and his men as well as Yun's men while attacking Cao Cao's ships who evaded the fire because of the wind not blowing their way which was the side of Cai Mao who was being bombarded by Gan Ning and his ships.

Yun was standing on the burning ship seeing the ships to his right burn while the ships on his left were being bombarded by Gan Ning when he looked behind himself seeing the ships catching fire thanks to the wind blowing to southwest.

Yun then began to walk to the back as he held his greatsword tightly making sure it wouldn't fall out of his hands as he approached the bridge connecting his ship with the ship behind him.

Yun saw that the ship had already been abandoned by his men which made Yun feel relieved since that meant that they followed his command without questioning it.

He continued walking further back as it was his duty to make sure that no man of his was left behind while approaching Cao Cao's army who by now should have understood that Yun planned all of this beforehand and that they all fell for it.

Yun could feel the ship shake wildly to his right making him look to the ships that were sinking because of Gan Ning's bombarding. The ships were dragging the burning ships down as well or at least they pulled them to the left going by the original formation and not Yun current viewing point.

Yun soon reached a ship that was burning as well while the soldiers were trying to put the fire out when they see Yun standing before them holding his greatsword when a man that seemed in charge steps forward holding an ax in his hands.

"Why have you betrayed us, General Zhao," says the man as Yun looks at him indifferently as he pierces his sword on the burning deck.

"General Man, I haven't betrayed you," says Yun without any doubt in his voice as he rests his hands on the pommel of his greatsword before saying, "How can you say I betrayed you when my loyalty has always been with another person. I was just waiting for the right time to finally reveal my real allegiance."

This made the man furious when he hears, "Man Chong, if I were you, I would retreat right now. I will give you and everyone else this opportunity while I am occupied to make sure that nobody I still care for dies in this giant fire."

Man Chong now looked confused at Yun because he was letting him go even though he was the one surrounded by the enemy when he hears, "If you don't retreat you will find out why I am called the God of War."

Yun's aura spread out and it intimidated them all making them take some steps back out of fear when Yun retracts his aura and he lifts his greatsword up and let it rest on his shoulder while holding it firmly in one hand.

He walk pass them leaving them standing while hoping that he would still be able to get to Cao Cao not to kill him but to cripple him by killing someone important to him.

Yun didn't want to kill Cao Cao but Xu Chu who is his most loyal General and his bodyguard. If Cao Cao loses him it would cripple Cao Cao for a while in which Yun could focus all his attention on the south even if he had to argue with Zhou Yu over it.

Yun continued to move forward when he suddenly feels a blade approaching him from behind which he blocked with his greatsword without removing it from his shoulder when he says angrily, "I gave you a chance to walk away. Don't hold it against me if you now end up dead."

Yun then lifted his sword from his shoulder moving the blade that he blocked as well before gathering Lightning Qi on his greatsword.

He swings the greatsword pushing everyone away injuring the soldiers around him but he avoided killing them. He looks at them and sees that they now wouldn't be able to evade their death on the ship.

Man Chong was shocked for a moment because one of his soldiers attacked Yun from behind only to see Yun block said attack without moving at all before counterattacking and injure fifty of his men.

He was lucky enough to not get dragged in thus attack because he was standing a bit further away. If he would have been two steps closer he would have been injured as well.

Shivers begin to run down his spine as Yun turns to him while he let go of his ax showing that he didn't want to fight which made Yun acknowledge Man Chong for being an intelligent man who knew when to make way and when it was time to fight.

Yun continued moving forward ignoring the soldiers and Man Chong as he only had one mission it was to either kill Xu Chu or cripple him at least making him useless for Cao Cao.

Sometime before the ships caught fire on the riverbank on Cao Cao's side with Hua and the others, Hua was looking at the battlefield when he asks, "What is the signal?"

"Pang Tong and Yun told me that we won't be able to miss it," says Tang Shi seriously as he is the man in charge at the moment.

They all knew that it was almost impossible to see a signal in the night as they waited patiently for their signal hoping that they wouldn't miss it when they suddenly see the night sky turn red because of the ship on which Yun was sailing caught fire followed by the ships beside it.

"Well, we can't really miss that signal," says Huang Zhong seeing the giant fire that was burning the ships as they began with their part of the strategy.

"You all remember what our Lord told us. We are here to reduce Cao Cao's troops so he won't think of attacking the south again in some years," says Huang Zhong seriously rallying the men up when he shouts, "For our Lord and for our future!"

The army shouts as they flank Cao Cao's main camp which was completely caught offguard by Yun's army attacking them out of nowhere.

Hope you like it.
