While Halia was chatting to Emerson, Natalie glared at Sean. Wasn't he the clingy friend from the airport? What was he doing here? Was he a stalker?
She noticed the way he was looking at Emerson and sensed a bit of jealousy.
Sean realized Natalie was glaring at him and swiftly turned away, trying to avoid suspicion, but Natalie quickly followed him out to the corridor.
"Didn't we meet at the airport earlier?" she asked with suspicion.
Sean turned and smiled at the woman, "Oh yes! Natalie, right?"
Natalie nodded.
"I just so happened to get this temporary gig. I was surprised to see you and Halia here," Sean chuckled.
However, Natalie remained serious, "Is it really such a coincidence?"
"Of course," Sean defended.
At that moment, Sean's manager called out, "Hey, hurry in and grab the next tray of food. The guests are getting impatient."
"Sorry, I have to go," Sean apologized as he disappeared into the kitchen. But, Natalie remained wary.
As Sean collected the next tray of food from the kitchen, one of his workmates nudged him and said cheekily, "Were you trying to pick up one of the guests?"
"No, she was just asking for directions," Sean lied.
"Well, you were talking to Natalie Shu. She's the secretary of Henry Feng, Chairman of Fengtai Corporation. Rumor has it, she's not into men," the workmate winked.
Sean looked at the man in surprise, "Is there any proof?" He was a man of logic.
"No one's ever seen her with a man before," the workmate replied. "And between you and I, I saw her kissing a woman at a previous event," he whispered.
Sean raised an eyebrow in surprise.
...
Out in the hall, Halia had just finished talking to Emerson when Natalie returned to her side.
As soon as she saw Natalie, Halia grabbed her hand and said, "Let's go look at the auction items."
Natalie smiled. Halia wasn't just her Boss' daughter, they had grown up together and were really good friends. In fact, Natalie got her job because Halia recommended her to her father.
"Oh look at that!" Natalie exclaimed as she dragged Halia over to a glass cabinet. Sitting inside was an elegant ruby and diamond necklace. She grabbed the credit card that Father Feng had given her and waved it in front of Halia. "Let's bid on it tomorrow," she said cheekily.
Halia laughed, "You know I don't spend my father's money."
"But it's for charity. Plus, if you don't like it...you could always give it to me..." Natalie laughed as she shook Halia's arm affectionately.
Halia poked Natalie on the nose playfully, "If you want it, then bid on it with your own money."
"Come on, you know I could never afford that," Natalie pouted again.
Halia looked at the necklace in detail. It was indeed beautiful. But...it was nothing compared to the bracelet on her wrist. Halia glanced down at the handmade bracelet. It had many imperfections, but that was what made it unique. Halia turned the little heart pendant in her hand and noticed the odd dotted texture on the back. She could imagine Jackson staying up all night, carefully knocking the metal into shape. It was the most thoughtful thing anyone had ever given her and was worth much more than some meaningless necklace in a glass cabinet.
But, while she was thinking about Jackson, a few pairs of eyes fell on her: Natalie looked at her in confusion, Sean looked at her with suspicion, Emerson looked at her with curiosity, and...in a hidden corner, Thomas Sun looked at her with interest...
"That bracelet looks interesting, where did you get it from?" Natalie asked.
Halia smiled, "A very special person gave it to me."
...
Over in France, the atmosphere was a little awkward in the quiet countryside home. The three Interpol agents were sitting around the dining table having lunch. Alexander Dupont was looking at Amelie lovingly, while Amelie looked at Jackson with frustration.
Last night, after Jackson kicked Amelie out of bed, she subsequently climbed into Alexander's and the two of them got quite intimate. Alexander naturally thought that she had no feelings for Jackson anymore and had chosen him, but he had no idea that he was just a consolation prize after Jackson rejected the woman harshly.
"Agent Martin's returned to the headquarters. He will return to pick you up as soon as you are needed for the trial. Once the trial is over, you don't need to stay here anymore," Alexander explained, breaking the silence.
Agent Martin was the man that drove Jackson to the safe house.
Jackson ate a spoonful of the pie in front of him and sighed. He didn't want to spend another day in this place, but he had no choice but to wait for Agent Martin's return. So, after he finished eating, he walked out to the vineyard to see if he could help. He needed to do something to pass the time, or he was going crazy...
