Money's Worth

Money's worth is all dependent on perspective. If you're from a richer family a dollar might be insignificant as it couldn't even buy a single meal whilst for some it may be the equivalent of 33 hours of work. The absolute lowest federal minimum wage is in Sierra Leone with $0.03 per hour, but that's just the legal limit. There are certainly places where people work in exchange for food but that's just pretty much a slave except slaves are given a place to rest. Money no matter how insignificant, could be equivalent to one step closer to freedom for a slave.

Money is finite and shouldn't be wasted. One commodity that most people nowadays have is a smartphone. The problem with smartphones and technology in general is that at the current rate it's developing, anything after 2 years can considered outdated (or just much worse than the current best). That's also the basic reason behind why most phone contracts are 2 years long. I've noticed that children can be quite spoiled to the point where they completely separate what their parents own from themselves. They think that they've gained something for free when their parents pay for it. Buying the newest phone is nice and all that but that doesn't warrant destroying an old one to gain a new one. Your parents have to work hard to gain that money and it shouldn't be wasted like that.

I still remember the first time I started comparing everything with it's worth was back in 4th grade at the cafeteria. On Fridays they always served pizza and a menu always cost the same regardless if you picked a pepperoni or cheese pizza. I always picked cheese since I enjoyed them but then I realized a pepperoni pizza is a cheese pizza with more stuff on top. More stuff same cost = win. So I obviously started eating pepperoni pizzas. Like the last time I was in Croatia, I always ordered sparkling water because if you wanted to order something like a coke you had to pay around $4 for 0.25 liters which is insane but for the same price you could get 0.75 liters of normal water or 1 liter of sparkling. I wouldn't be able to enjoy my meal with just a 0.25 litre drink and since I'm already used to sparkling water I picked that. This concept might seem foreign to Americans readers as water and refills are usually free but that's just how it is in other parts of the world.

There are countless video games out there that have pay to win systems built in where the only way to be the best is to pay real money. No matter how much you play you will never be able to beat someone who's paid a certain amount of money. This incentivizes people to pay that cost. There are also games where you don't need to pay to win but you do if you want to save thousands of hours grinding.

If you just want to have fun then you'll have to pay a bit more since those things will cost more. If your on a vacation, you've probably picked a city that seems either nice or interesting, just like everyone else. These areas you are planning to visit are most likely tourist hotspots where the locals will definitely charge you more for anything and might even try to cheat you since you're just a gullible foreigner.
