Rr.…rr…rr…
Casting aside her laptop and pile of files, she picked up the smartphone on her desk and asking in a lazy tone,
"Who is this?"
She threw herself onto the chair simultaneously while putting her computer glasses on the table. That's her default answer for every single anonymous calls she received.
"Oh! finally it's getting through! It's me dear, your deskmate in high school!"
The high pitched voice from the speakers that entered her ear could be recognised immediately. This cheerful, youthful and overly positive tone is no other than hers. Her eyes sparkle a little on her old friend's image that re-created inside her lobus frontal.
"Hi, what's up?"
She replied excitedly, recalling when was the last time she kept in touch with this bubbly girl. Searching it in her labyrinth of memories, through thousands of neurons that linked everything on her head. She gasped on the newly found fact: It's been two years!.
Time does fly... she sighed lightly of the thought.
"Ohh, I've been good~~very well, to be precise. How about you? Are you okay? Where exactly are you know?? I've been wondering about your existence this past two goddamn year after your Uni graduation day! Don't say you're already married without telling anyone???"
She kept the phone away from her ear as this fellow bombarding her with a lot of questions.
"Umm, sorry. I've changed my phone number and rarely active on social media since graduation. Sorry for not contacting you right away but, I did have some circumstances that keeping me away from my usual life back then. I'll tell you the details later. Ah, yeah! I'm currently in the region right now, are you still living in our hometown? Ah, and of course, I'm not married!!" She replied, emphasising the last sentence as if it's a matter of fact that everyone aware of.
"Okay okay, calm down. I get it miss. I'm working in the city hospital so I am not moving anywhere, haha. When will you be coming home? Our city changed much you know, I'll guide you when you're back!"
"Oh, really? Sounds good!"
She can't contain the pleasure from her timbre, knowing she can actually get a little break from her hectic studies and work schedules eased her shoulders a little. She planned to visit her parents' house but never thought about meeting her old friend for this short visit. 'What a nice breather' she thought.
"All right then, do inform me whenever you arrived! Oh my god! It's past noon already. I gotta back to my shift now dear, I am sorry. I'll call you later for sure!"
"Hmm, bye bye!"
"Remember our promise okay?"
"Yeah, I'm not that forgetful you know"
Putting back her phone, she thought something's off. Ah, where the hell she got my current number??. Remembering that she never share it other than to her current colleagues.
Well, it doesn't matter anyway, all she need is a break! Her two wide eyes shining brightly due to the excitement.
It decided then.
A wide smile then slowly appears on her usually-plain poker face.
