"I still can't believe I don't get this..."

In a rather egregiously posh and expansive classroom, a boy sat on a desk at the edge of it as he scratched his head and looked at the textbook in his hands.

The boy had a bored and rigid aspect on his face as he repeatedly shook his head and scratched his head, which had no further effects other than allowing him to feign the feeling of at least doing something.

He was fat, and ugly. Well, he was more uglier than fat but it could go both ways.

Nonetheless, math was hard — and that's something he'd learnt the hard way.

Tenshi Ayama, the boy on the desk, shook his head for one last time as he closed the textbook and smiled towards the maiden in front of him. " How about I...do these a bit later? It's not like the homework has to be submitted right now. "

The girl sitting on the seat in front of him pouted, "Hmph, don't cry to me later then if I don't want to explain it to you!"

The girl's curly eyelashes fluttered as her cute and symmetrical face glared at him with a pout; her eyebrows were curled while her small nose was slightly wrinkled as a result of her pout.

She was beautiful, her breasts were perky while her stomach was flat. Her white-toned skin was shining and her eyes were limpid.

Haruno Ichiho. Tenshi's girlfriend.

They met with each other back when his mother came here with him from the «Capital». Nothing stood between them as they both got along without a hitch and quickly became the bests of best friends.

Waking up each other, commuting to school together and even going to dates — they were inseparable; never traveling anywhere without each other.

Maybe that's the reason why he loved her and confessed to her three years ago, and thankfully, she happily agreed to go out with him — which was the only memory he found truly happy among his train-wreck of a life.

Tenshi found her to be a unicorn among people. She never left him even through countless difficulties and differences. She was the only person Tenshi thought he could count on if he became bankrupt.

Although, there was a —large— difference between them. And that was that Tenshi found it really hard to study and thus, never matched well with honor student Haruno.

Tenshi snickered and he rubbed his forehead; which was unfortunately drenched with oil and sweat and Haruno upon seeing it, rolled her eyes and gave Tenshi her handkerchief.

Tenshi licked his lips as he sniffed the handkerchief, and then he wiped his forehead with it.

"Hey, the real person is right in front of you. And you prefer a handkerchief over her?" Haruno chuckled.

"Heh, I like things that smell sweet. You don't but your handkerchief does..." Tenshi said as if it was a matter-of-fact.

Well, it wasn't his fault that he was brutally honest with her.

The pout on Haruno's face deepened as she laid her hands on her skirt to smoothen it out.

" You won't be able to keep me if you talk like that."

"Whoa, weren't you telling me just an hour ago that nothing is to be held back in a relationship? Hehe, hypocritical much?"

"Hmph, I didn't mean it like that. You shouldn't be honest about everything: some things are better left in the dark."

"I...I was just joking though. You smell nice, I was joking. I don't really think anyone smells better than you."

Frankly, Tenshi had never went ahead and sniffed every school girls body so he didn't know but nonetheless, Haruno was truly great in every area.

" Hm, so, weren't we supposed to go on a date somewhere? " Tenshi asked upon seeing that the class was about to end soon.

"Date? Not today, I actually have some work here. How about tomorrow? Tomorrow's a Saturday, right?"

"Saturday's fine."

Tenshi nodded his head as he looked at Haruno, and immediately from behind her came a dude as he slapped him on the back.

"Ey, how's it going you two?" A deep voice came to his ears as Tenshi winced.

Tenshi looked towards Endou, the man that had slapped him on the back and nodded.

The man was handsome: devilish jaw and sculpted face combined made him the class's most famous man. Although he didn't play sports or did anything considered Ikemen-like to the women, he was on the Student Council — which was also rather unsurprisingly attractive to women.

Why was he rambling on and on in his mind about the man? Simple, Endou Riyama was his friend. One from rather way back if he had to say.

Haruno, Tenshi and Endou — all of them became friends just as they came here to this city. It couldn't be helped either that they became friends, because their parents all worked together.

Tenshi mind recoiled in pain as he remembered his mother, a hard working educator and legislator in this area renowned for her honestly.

He loved her, and she's dead.

Haruno frowned as she looked at Endou; she didn't even try to engage in chatter with him and instead redirected her eyes towards somewhere else.

Tenshi seeing this came back from his inner monologue and smiled towards Endou.

Endou looked at him with a confused smirk; his blonde hair slightly swished in the air as he leaned towards Tenshi.

"Hey, why is your girlfriend mad at me? Did you blame me for something I didn't do?" Endou whispered as he simultaneously chuckled.

"Blegh, do I seem like a person that could lie to her?"

"Well, that's true."

Endou stood up and walked towards Haruno, "Hey, the principal called for you. Go to him after school ends." Endou waved at her and exited the class.

Tenshi chuckled. All of them were Year-2 Class-1 students, a class suited for the top-grade students in their school.

Which Tenshi regrettably wasn't one of.

...

Tenshi exited through the school's gate with a frown; his gaze went towards his surroundings with a deep breath.

His gaze went towards the plainly decorated yet style undeprived gates of the school and then towards the side of the road.

To be frank, Tenshi had the feeling that all of the sedans present could be used even for an auto show.

Those luxury sedans were those superior kinds that were usually difficult to even witness appearing on the roads, while there were a couple of limited edition sports cars amongst them as well.

While there were still some low-priced cars amongst those vehicles, but then those few low-priced cars possessed insanely wicked license plate numbers.

Tenshi didn't pay attention towards the students rushing out of the gates behind him, they were all unimportant beings to him that he didn't need to pay attention to.

Maybe Tenshi was just like this but he thought of human lives worth less than they were; unless they came in use for him of course. Except for some unique beings exempted from the rule, he didn't care about the others.

But hey, no one cares about everyone else. Tenshi's just a bit more vocal than the rest.

Tenshi felt a deep frown of discomfort form on his face as he stared at the rich and privileged board their cars and travel to their home; it shouldn't have had any effect of his mind but it did bring one, and that was that he missed his mother.

The warm embrace that his mother brought was priceless, and now impossible to feel again — and to that, all of these student's parents had a hand in it.

Tenshi's mother was just being honest. But then again, honesty was a detrimental value to most bureaucrats.

If he could, he would spike all of these people's cafeteria lunches with rat poison. But well, that would make him a criminal, no?

Tenshi walked back and for a bit as he waited for Haruno to finish her meeting with the principal. It strangely made him anxious when she was away from his side for even a bit.

Instead of who he was waiting for, a blonde haired Ikemen instead rushed out from the gate towards him.

Endou's face was a bit less relaxed than always, but nonetheless he slapped Tenshi once again on the back with a smile.

"Ouch, stop that!" Tenshi growled as he hit Endou with his elbow.

Strange, isn't this dude supposed to be in the Student Council right now and doing his duties?

"So why are you here all of a sudden? Shouldn't you be in the student council?"

"Ah that? I don't think I'll be able to today. I feel really bad." Endou rubbed his neck and wryly smiled.

"Ah well, then, I have to leave..." Endou ran as fast as he could and ran away from the spot.

"Strange..."

...

In a road clear of any vehicles and illuminated only by the orange glow of the sun, a chubby boy was walking along with a beauty. Laughter randomly sprouted out from their conversations as each of them had fun talking with each other

The boy sighed as he looked at the neighborhood he was in; it was filled with apartment complexes, parks and lavish theaters. Even the road side trashbins were more larger than his house.

He used to live here before, that too along with Haruno.

"So as always, thanks for escorting me back to my house, Tenshi-kun!" Haruno turned back and said with a bright smile; her knee-length skirt fluttered in the air along with her scarf; creating a mesmerizing image of beauty.

"That's nothing. No big deal." Tenshi waved his hands around as he looked at Haruno's house: a towering apartment complex.

Haruno was about to turn away and walk towards her house but Tenshi suddenly remembered Endou, and his hurried manner of exit and Haruno's weird attitude regarding him.

Did they have a fight? That wasn't possible, they were usually pretty nice with each other.

"Haruno, Endou was unusually hurrying towards his home today, maybe he's sick?...also, did you have a fight with him or something?"

Haruno didn't say anything, and Tenshi also couldn't see her expression since she was turned away and walking towards her house.

"Oh right!" Haruno suddenly jerked forwards as he bent her waist and turned towards him.

"It's my birthday today!" She said as she smirked and rolled her eyes at him, telling him off for forgetting about it.

"How could you possibly forget about that..." Haruno scowled at him and turned away once again, and without saying anything else ran towards her house.

Tenshi rapidly blinked his eyes as he ran and tried to catch up with her.

Her birthday...?

"W-wait wait wait wait, YOUR BIRTHDAY IS NEXT WEEK, NOT TODAY! WHY ARE YOU LYING?!"

"Fufufu~!" Haruno entered the apartment complex and disappeared, happy since she managed to bamboozle him.

Tenshi's hands caught open air as he clicked his tongue and retracted them from the air.

A warm gush of blood entered his chest as a smile bloomed in his face; even though he very well knew what that feeling was, it still felt new and amazing to him.

Even though he was fooled by her, it felt amazing; amazingly pleasure full.

With an irresistible cocktail of chemicals, our brain entices us to fall in love — feel lust and become obsessive. How he wished he could overcome the cycle, yet he didn't want to, for he loved someone deeply.

It takes a second for lust, an hour for obsession, a day for love and an eternity for faith to bloom.

Find a complete stranger.

Reveal to each other intimate details about your lives for half an hour.

Then, stare deeply into each other's eyes without talking for four minutes.

And fall in love. That's it. Your brain will take care of it by drugging you with Phenylethylamine.

If he wanted to, he would kill off this love mechanism by uprooting it from its roots: hormones. Well, he didn't want to, and that's that.

Remembering his childhood fascination with psychology and neuro-chemistry, Tenshi shook his head and started to walk towards his own house.

Frankly, it might have been a waste of time. But the plus side was that he could use them in real life regardless of how unethical they might be seen as — and on the double plus side, he was proud that he took up something useful such as psychology and not gender studies.

Tenshi looked towards the sky and saw the clear sky. Which improved his mood a bit as he kicked a rock on the pavement and increased his pace.

Suddenly, a small golden gleam in the sky caught his attention as he redirected his sight towards it and saw a crow clawing through the sky with an injured body. The crow's entire body was black, but unknown to Tenshi, there was a stripe of golden color on its wing shining even without any light falling on it.

"CAW CAW! CAAWW!!!"

The roaring sounds of the crow's defiant screaming rang throughout the neighborhood, yet no one walking beside him even paid any attention to it as it swooped around and flew in the sky dangerously close to the people.

The crow turned around as it saw him; its dark red eyes stared at him as it suddenly stopped caw-ing.

Tenshi tried to move. Yet his legs didn't even look like they intended to as they stood still; as if he was paralyzed.

A paranoid expression slipped on his face as he tensed his entire body in an attempt to stimulate his body to move, which proved unsuccessful as his legs fiercely kept him into one place by applying force on the ground.

The problem was, he couldn't even feel anything in his body. As if all had turned into stone.

What is this?! A panic attack?! B-but h—

Tenshi's inner defense mechanisms started to come into effect as fear started to crowd his body, his eyes fell to his feet while his hands curled up into balls — without any command from his body.

As soon as his eyes fell to his feet, his body turned normal, and as soon as he felt the sensations return to his limbs he hurriedly ran away from the spot he was in, unaware that the crow was still there and now following him.

Soon, Tenshi reached a corner of the neighborhood — one dense with people and trees — and crouched down there with exasperated breaths and a red face.

The reason why he chose a densely-crowded area was due to the fact that if he suddenly fell once again into the trance-like state, he'd have people to rely on who'd send him to the hospital.

"What the heck was that?" Tenshi spread his legs on the grass as he looked at the sky; suspicious of the crow appearing again in front of him.

"A supernatural being...no, that's not possible. Ghosts definitely don't exist because otherwise the Large Hadron Collider would have found them way back."

If ghosts existed, then they would need to be made purely out of energy, since by their very definition they can't be made out of matter. But if they were made only of energy, they would quickly dissipate, because the second law of thermodynamics proposes that energy is always lost to heat.

The only way that they'd be able to avoid that would be to have an incoming source of their own spooky energy. But that's also impossible, if it was possible then it'd be discovered by now.
