A Making New Master

A man called Reuben Smith looked after us while York was in a place London. He was gentle and clever with horses, and an excellent driver. But he had one fault — he sometimes drank too much. For weeks or months he was all right, but then without warning he would begin to drink heavily and behave badly. But he was a useful man so York had kept quiet about Smith’s drinking, saying nothing to Lord Gray. Then one night Smith drove some ladies and gentlemen home from a party and was so drunk that he could not hold the reins. York could not hide this and Lord Gray told Smith to leave. However, some time later, York spoke again to Lord Gray, who was very kind-hearted, and he took Reuben Smith back. Smith promised never to get drunk again and kept his promise, and because of this he was told to look after the stables while York was away. One day the carriage needed some repairs so it was arranged that Smith would take it to town, leave it at the carriage-maker’s, and then ride me back again. Mr Blantyre wanted to go to the station, so he went with us. At the station, M r Blantyre gave Smith some money and said, ‘Take care of Lady Anne, Reuben, and don’t let anyone else except her ride Black Beauty.’ We left the carriage at the maker’s, and Smith rode me to the White Lion hotel. He told the stableman to give me some food and have me ready for four o’clock. One of my front shoes was loose but the stableman did not see it until four o’clock. Smith came back at five and said he would now leave at six because he’d met some old friends. The stableman told him about the loose shoe. ‘It’ll be all right until we get home,’ said Smith. He finally came back at nine o’clock, shouting loudly and in a very bad temper. We left and almost immediately he began to gallop, often giving me sharp cuts with the whip, although I was going at full speed. Before we were out of the town my shoe came off, but Smith was too drunk to notice. It was very dark, and on the rough road at that speed, my foot was soon cut and bleeding from the sharp stones. I could not go on; the pain was too great, and I fell violently on both my knees. Smith was thrown off. He tried to get up but couldn’t, then he lay still. I could do nothing but wait. It was nearly midnight when I heard a horse’s feet and the wheels of a carriage. I neighed loudly, and was very happy to hear an answering neigh from Ginger, and men’s voices. Then the carriage came out of the darkness and stopped. Two men jumped down beside Smith. ‘It’s Reuben,’ said one, ‘and he’s not moving, Robert.’ ‘He’s dead,’ said Robert, touching Smith. ‘His hands are cold and his head is covered with blood.

The Refugees of Revolution

Their home, lost. Their lives from before, all but forgotten. All they have left is each other, and maybe, just maybe, hope. Alex and Dimitri flee the fires of revolution and civil war searching for a new start or at least an escape from those that seem to hunt them. Together they will journey the length of the country, to a land within their own. A land as foreign as it is timeless, as vast as it is empty, and the birthplace of ancient conquerors at the far flung ends of an empire. Yet even as they run, the flames of war follow them, proceeded them even at times. It will take all their wits and courage to survive. Wring this story I had an image of people jumping onto a moving armored train while being chased by Cossack cavalry in a vast, empty landscape. I wanted to write about a story behind the mental image I had. This story is inspired by history, primarily that of the Russian revolution and civil war in the east. While there will be similarities I do not intend to have this be the same as our world and our history in order to allow for some degree of freedom in my writing and plot. While I will try to do my research I apologize for any cultural or historical inconsistencies as I am neither a proper historian nor of Russian heritage. I pretty much just took a Russian history class and read a book on Roman von Ungern-Sternberg. Please help correct me in the comments if I get something wrong as this is my first time writing such a work. Finally thank you for reading and please enjoy!

City Chronicles: The Neon Reveries

In the heart of a sprawling metropolis, Jason, a talented but disillusioned photographer, struggles to find his place in a city pulsating with life, contradictions, and hidden stories. Haunted by personal demons and a sense of detachment, he embarks on a journey to capture the raw essence of the city through his lens. As Jason navigates the neon-lit streets, he stumbles upon a mysterious underground network of artists, activists, and urban explorers who are determined to unveil the city's hidden truths. With each photograph he takes, Jason delves deeper into the labyrinthine world of this urban subculture, discovering a tapestry of secrets, hopes, and dreams that have long been concealed in the shadows. Amidst the chaos and the beauty of the city at night, Jason encounters Sarah, a passionate journalist who shares his desire to expose the city's untold stories. Together, they embark on a quest to illuminate the lives of the forgotten, to reveal the resilience of the marginalized, and to capture the transformation of a city that never sleeps. As Jason's camera becomes a vessel for connection and understanding, he begins to see the city in a new light. The neon lights that once symbolized urban chaos start to represent the dreams and aspirations of its inhabitants. Jason's journey becomes a neon reverie, a vivid exploration of the human spirit against the backdrop of a city that's always moving, always changing. "Neon Reverie" is a tale of self-discovery, connection, and the power of storytelling in an urban landscape where every photograph has a story, every face has a narrative, and every corner holds a secret waiting to be revealed.

Demons Descent

Nearly 10 thousand years ago humans were brought onto the great isle of Pallan through the great rifts. A magical land where mana flows and the impossible is possible. Yet the humankind brought over was a primitive race. They were still cave dwellers, forced to hide from the creatures of Pallan. But soon a select few of the species stood out amongst the rest. Individuals capable of harnessing the mana of Pallan. Under the leadership of theses individuals humanity prospers. Agriculture is discovered, society forms, and kingdoms are born. But after so many centuries the humans idle in their growth. Once forced to grow and evolve the humans now stagnate. Those that once led the way are now content to rule, keeping the secret to mana under lock and fighting petty wars amongst themselves. 10 thousand years ago humans arrived through the great rift. But that, was only the first wave. On a day where dark clouds filled the sky, Demons, Monsters, and Devils descended onto the lesser human realm. An invasion occurs unlike any of those in history, and the humans, after languishing for so long, are not prepared for what is to come. Those closest to the rifts are first to be attacked. Those farther out have only to wait until their city is razed to the ground. ------------- Lucas Arden, the shield of Brinton. Born a commoner he was granted a place among the knights Carmek after his excellent talent with mana was discovered. But when the demons arrive he refuses to accept the death that awaits him. He refuses to run and hide like so many others. He leaves to take on the threat, against his lords commands, in what would most likely be a suicide mission. But by doing so he discovers that he can grow stronger by defeating the interdimensional invaders. Soon, however, Carmek is led to ruin, and being the sole survivor, Lucas leaves to fight the demons. If he does not fight, he will not grow. If he does not grow he will not survive. He will continue to press forwards, growing stronger and stronger until he has defeated all his enemies, united all those in scattered in disarray, and until there are none that can oppose him. ------------- This is a apocalypse novel set in a medieval fantasy. I hope you like it. Right now I'm doing daily updates and maybe more. Anyways, please leave a comment or review. Whether that's to show what you like about the novel or to give criticism. All are welcome.
