I am going to guess / theorize that the ultimate antagonist is Gaia's last line of defense against outside influences, its last desperate attempt to thwart chaos & other powers. ........................................................................................................................................... because a sword (Excalibur) is only viable against foes who are physically present, its not ideal against insidious foes who work through proxies & their own innumerous servants. ............................................................................................................................................ because the counterforce, its usual mechanism for defense is compromised, the antagonist might be the earth's desperate Hail Mary. .............................................................................................................................................bear in mind this is only a theory of mine, which would be cool if confirmed, but the the authors vision takes precedence.

my guess is that she's in north America. because distance is relative continent wise, & she'd want to get as far away from painful memories as possible,....... meaning Europe isn't really an option since its too close geography wise...... & there is only one ocean connected to northern Europe. that said............. that the professor persona is pretty much a muzzle the world put on him to make the individual work for them, why destroy A powerful rival when you can instead chain them to a yoke?
