What I know that pokemon with the ability "magic guard" can still be poisoned but it will not take any damage. So , you will have to use either Antidote/Full Heal or heal the pokemon at pokemon center in order to get it rid from the poisoned status.
As the battle progressed, Ivysaur attempted to gain the upper hand by using Poison Powder to poison Alakazam. Alakazam, however, managed to use its agility to avoid it.
