I have no idea. Same reason why some high-profile academic people are idiots in everything but their own field, I guess. I don't remember why I wrote him that way, which is a small blessing in itself.

I mean, I had the obligatory phases with pirates, Ancient Egypt, and knight stuff even before Pirates of the Caribbean was a thing, but when I saw the movies, my brain just locked onto that. I had to write books about pirate tropes so that I would not talk about it all the time. However, for the sheer dramatic quality of the plot, I also liked Black Sails, even if it has a bit of Game of Thrones morality sprinkled in with themes of adventure etc.

I mean, I dunno, it probably really doesn't.

This is a bit bloated with words.

Magic toasters are a cool idea, I like them. Dragonskin is probably a very good material for handbags. I like several magitech tropes, but I don't know if there are many books about wizards literally smuggling stuff into a fantasy world. It felt like a funny idea and I wanted to read it, so I had to write it. I also like the main character. He's someone right on the borderline between heroic mentality and opportunism. I like the book as a whole. It's mine. It's something fun, and that's fun.
