D Rank Demon of the Wastelands

Wasteland Hero’s a yet unreleased full dive video game. Jake had received an early access copy in the mail. He had never been much for games, but his mother had. She even owned one of the expensive full dive consoles. Now that she was dead, having passed suddenly from cancer it was his. Logging in he found a game, unlike anything he had expected. Instead of stiff blocky graphics, what he discovers is a game of unparalleled graphics where high science fiction such as power armors, personal shields, smart guns, and even plasma rifles was commonplace. Just as common as high fantasy tropes of magic arrow shooting archers, fireball launching wizards, and mightly knights in shining plate. Within the game, he soon finds friends and even love to help him escape from his grief. Together with his new friends, he sets out on the simple adventure of getting stronger in a game without levels or experience. When tragedy strikes a grief-stricken Jake finds out that nothing is as it seems. What is virtual and what is real are completely different than he always believed. Worse, even as he struggles to cope with recent tragedy forces beyond his control seek to ruin everything. Soon he realizes just how small his world really was. With attributes that are stuck at D rank no matter how much Mugatgen he absorbs. His Power Claw class having no skills and being purely melee. Combined with his fear of working with any other players, will he become the hero of the wastelands? Or will he become the Demon just like his new nickname? Note: The first arc is slow-paced meant to cover the MC's introduction to the world. The event that shaped who he is to become. It is much slower-paced than the next arcs. The second arc is also written so you could jump in there if you wanted to skip the slower backstory section. Up to you the reader. Maybe give the more fast-paced arc a shot then catch up on the past.

Eion

Eion’s earliest memory was of the elves. Of them slaughtering everyone around him and fleeing desperately from them. After somehow escaping that horrible event, something he can’t remember. He was taken in by a group of priests living in a hidden monastery high in the mountains. There they trained his body, mind, and spirit. Mostly his body, as the energetic youth rarely sat still long enough for lectures or meditation. All that suddenly changed when the elves attacked again. Again, Eion managed to escape. Again, he couldn’t remember how. But with nothing other than one of the shiny rocks the priest mined in their hidden tunnels. Eion has set off both to escape from the elves and fulfill his lifelong dream of being a merchant. Naive and innocent he would seem the perfect target for those ne’er do wells of the world. They soon find out that the countless hours of combat training the priests used to try and reign in his energetic nature made that difficult. After meeting his good friend, Snake. Eion finds himself a full-fledged and completely legal merchant. He even has a very nice cart, one that is completely a proper “merchant’s cart” pulled by a fine steed. Now as a proper merchant he sets out on an adventure. This is actually just the back story for one of the characters I’m playing in a weekly D&D game. I figured it would be fun to flesh out his back story and maybe occasionally do a write-up for a session. Not expecting many to read it but if you do, I hope you enjoy it.

Red Star Recovery Inc.

Deck was a Galactic Marine, was as in retired as of today. Not just any marine either, a Red Star which makes his retirement special. After all Red Star troops are the ones given the option of being orbitally dropped on a penal planet or serving in the military based on their crimes. Both are normally considered a death sentence. At fifteen he had been given the choice, serve five years as a Red Star or take the drop. He choose the former and against all odds has survived to retire. Now his five long years of suicidal missions have paid off. During that time he scrimped and saved everything. Unlike his fellow Red Stars, he didn’t blow all his creds on brothels and booze but instead saved for this day. Finally, he is a free man and has enough cash to buy his own ship. It may be a tiny frigate but it is the gates of freedom for him. Well, that was the plan. Five sober years avoiding any mistakes and he finally messed up on his first day of freedom. Waking up with his first-ever hangover next to a woman he didn’t even remember he discovers he managed to get scammed out of his life’s savings. Instead of the basic SA1H Firestorm frigate, he had planned to buy. He is now the owner of an unknown model ship. One that has been stripped down to the frame and completely unflyable. On top of that, the woman who scammed him is now legally his first mate. Bound by an indenture contract despite what either of them might want, but hey only for the next ten years. Now broke. With no prospects and stuck with the woman that screwed him over, he has to find a way to survive. How bad can it be? There is no way things could get worse at least. Right? Right? He definitely won’t end up one of the most wanted men in the galaxy. Running from bounty hunters, enraged criminal groups, and even the military accompanied by a woman he can’t trust and an equally suspicious AI. That would be crazy. WPC#262 entry

Isekai Underdog

For Sael being pulled to another world wasn’t something he minded. In fact, when he found out he was the only one chosen for the warrior class from those he arrived with he was thrilled. Until he found out in order to receive all the tasty power-ups that always come with this type of situation he must battle a terrifying monster without any of said tasty powers. Even in success things aren’t quite going the way he expected. Still, everyone loves an underdog, including it seems the system powering those brought to this new world. On his journey, he will make friends with both other Arrived and the locals. Find romance often when he isn’t looking for it. And of course new enemies around every corner from the mindless monsters of the world to the diabolical powers behind everything. And maybe even find time to unlock the secret of the Arrived, if he lives that long.
