You're acting as if an entire year apart isn't going to change anything, which btw is more like rehab than what you did to her. The issue isn't whether or not they stay as friends it's how you went about it that bothered me, we're shown that these two characters have been best friends for years and care about each other a lot but then you go and do this. It's a lot of build up for a lackluster conclusion to what could have been so much more.

Except this isn't like putting an addict in rehab it's like giving the addict a lobotomy. It's natural for them to be codependent on each other, one came froma super abusive home and the other one was ostracized because of the accidental magic, both of which would be fixed after the mom mind raped the other mom and the mc went off to hogwarts and found others like himself.

It isn't for the best, she just mind raped their friendship out of existence. I'd be furious. This was a lazy way to get rid of a character that could have been used for so much more. You could have had an amazing subplot about both their struggles with her codependency and her getting better or worse or something, instead you have his mom get rid of her in such an awful way.

And just like that, any and all interest is gone
