Thanks for pointing that out. Think of it as figuratively speaking. It’s as if she had just assumed the role of stepmother in a new environment and there will always be limitations in how she thinks she can act especially considering the household she was coming from. So technically the number of days/ weeks that Shelby has spent in the Thornston household does not really matter.
