As far as taking away the MC’s painting/chess/etc, they see the MC not cultivating but fighting at the level of an immortal at the age of 14. They don’t know that he gets stronger through the arts. To the people in the novel, it’s like a family watching one of their relatives have the ability to cure cancer, but decides to watch anime all day instead. To them, if he focused on cultivating and battle prowess, they believe he could dominate the world by 20.

Disclaimer: Nothing about what I am about to say excuses the actions of the father. If you think about it from the father’s perspective, he went to war, lost his wife, and came back to find out his 14 year old son spends his days playing chess, only to then have his child raise a sword against him after he didn’t believe his son. MC is technically in a 14 year old body. 14 year olds don’t usually have old man souls like our MC does. The father wanted to discipline him, but ended up trying to discipline someone with the mindset of an old man. Granted, it wasn’t so bad until the author had the dad go full murder hobo.

One of my biggest gripes with this novel is the author always saying how technology is still supreme. It was said that 10 speed/dext was PEAK human prior to descent. The AVERAGE human jogging speed is 4 - 6mph today. Let’s be even more conservative, and say despite 10 speed being PEAK human, that the average jogging speed is 4mph at 10 speed. Ignoring ALL buffs that having micro adjustments from things like madness control and effectiveness, multiplying 4 by 14 gives the average jogging speed at 140 speed/dext/strength a speed of 56 mph. That is the speed limit on a highway. A human doesn’t need a road and can straight shot to a city. MASSIVELY lowballing every single stat point STILL puts the MC’s JOGGING speed at the speed of a car on the highway. This is ignoring all skills, aether, and the like. Quite ruins the immersion and impact of stats when comparisons like this are done without thought.
