It depend on the context. In a street fight where you have to take the sword quickly, yes it's stupid. But if you are carring it and have a minute or two to prepare before a battle it's possible.
yep the katana is overrated. The kopis of the greeks was lighter, cheaper and as a one-handed it can be used with a shield. The most important thing is that the cutting capabilities were the same as a katana
