Seems about right. Democracy is only possible when one person can slaughter most of the population at will, and can’t be harmed even if a gang came at them all at once.
It doesnt mean the system makes the quest more difficult for fewer players, but that difficulty increases simply because the quest was designed for higher number of players, and is thus more difficult for fewer.

Why can spells mainly be used for fighting? Seems like a very narrow view; I’m sure spells have way more application in medicine, construction, and entertainment.

Not really, in the sect heirarchy, those in the same generation or level of seniority/cultivation are ‘siblings’, naturally their lower generations not of the same lineage call them uncles and aunts. sect brother of master is then uncle-master, sect brother of master’s master is thus uncle-grandmaster.

Classic lurker behavior
There is nothing that can make the act of killing ‘right’, but the mere fact that the action is backed by a mission they have to complete in order to get back to their timeline makes the act of killing palatable. Conscious, rigorously backed action, done after thorough consideration is better compared to reactive, emotionally charged actions that will leave people wondering if they could have felt differently and done things differently in the future.
