Does a character really require a love interest?

Show, don’t tell. This kind of statement dampens the mystery surrounding their future relationship. We already knew there might be potential conflict based on previous writing, now it’s solidified.

Doesn’t seems likely seeing as he literally has to scan his surroundings to “see”.

This entire chapter could be summed up in a couple of words: ”I’m glad I had the procedure done, my past self would struggle/die”.
