Chapter 49: Investigation

Three hours before Mute met Geto. Back at the destroyed town. 

In the middle of the town, several people could be seen next to a black limo. They were looking through the gray wasteland trying to find clues. A massive investigation was launched trying to figure out what had happened. 

The group of people were all sorcerers, the majority of them were around grade 2 or 3, except a blonde-haired man wearing a suit and glasses. He was crouching over and staring at a burnt piece of string barely still intact. He looked at the powerful cursed energy leaking from the string before his name was called by a woman behind him.

" Hey, Nanami-sama, have you found anything? We've been searching for hours and we found nothing except more craters. " 

Said a black-haired woman wearing a black suit. Nanami gingerly stood up before looking back at the woman and talking. 

" Besides this single piece of string, nothing either. We'll never find anything in this gray wasteland. We'll have to go to the mountains. Looks like their battle began there. "

Said Nanami looking over the woman's head, staring at the mountain covered in massive pieces of ice. As Nanami stared at the mountain, hundreds of thoughts ran through his head... 

When I got a call from Gojo asking me to investigate, a town disappearance. I didn't think much about it, however, this is far worse than I imagined. The curse energy lingering over this destroyed town is powerful and dense. Judging from the skyscraper-sized pieces of ice on the mountain, clearly, two special-grade forces battled each other.

I start to walk towards the mountain until I glance to my right and see Ino walking towards me. Only he and I are going to enter the mountain. The rest of the sorcerers here aren't strong enough. The cursed spirit could still be alive living on the mountain. Most cursed spirits don't leave the area where they're born. 

After walking for 20 minutes, Ino and I stare at a massive pillar of ice engulfing the sky. The ice is compact and filled with cursed energy. I observed the pillar until I heard Ino quickly walking towards something. I glanced over to him before he crouched down and stared at dying grass. I start walking toward him before I notice the grass is dyed purple. 

Ino touched the purple grass before looking back at me and talking. 

" Nanami-sama, it's blood. " 

Purple blood? So one of the forces was a curse. I glanced to the left and stared at the ground noticing red grass. Oh? Its blood was red. Was the other force a sorcerer instead of another curse? If the sorcerer defeated a curse that could cause this much destruction by itself, then they must be special grade. 

But there are only three special grades in the world? Did Yuki kill a curse and not tell us? Great, looks like this investigation is going to be far more complicated than I expected... 

Back to the present outside the temple in Tokyo, Mute could be seen sitting on the roof of the temple thinking to himself. He just left the temple after hearing Geto's ideals...

He plans on killing every non-sorcerer to keep cursed spirits from being born. What a chaotic plan. But I agreed to work with him. Only so I can figure out the weaknesses of Gojo. He wanted me to accompany those two girls next to him. I think their names were Nanako and Mimiko. They're going to break into the jujutsu high and meet someone, in three days. During those three days prior to them breaking into jujutsu high, I need to remain with Nanako and Mimiko, and the reason why I-Is well, to put it how Geto said, " Build team spirit. " 

The reason they plan on breaking in is Apparently, there are many holes inside the jujutsu high barrier due to the blooming of curse spirits called fly heads and in three days the number of fly heads is going to reach its peak. 

My feet dangled off the temple roof edge until Nanako and Mimiko walked out of the temple with backpacks on. I push off the roof using my hands leaping down. I land behind Nanako and Mimiko slowly following them...
