Chapter Eleven: Fate’s and Nyx’s Peaceful(?) Days

The day after, Fate woke up with Nyx on top of her body. She smiled. The heat of the sun's rays combined with the coolness of Nyx's body made for an very comfortable combination. She sighed and smiled, resting the back of head on her arms. The calm over the past two years was a nice change of pace.

When she escaped the Dark Site in her past life, she spent her two years trying to get used to her new life and watching over her shoulder for anyone allied with those scientists. And then she volunteered for the army and went from one massacre to the next for ten years.

She wished that this peace could last forever. However, she wanted to keep her promise to Fenrir. On top of that, in Aria, life for Fallens were anything but peaceful. And Fate was about to learn this first hand.

A sudden noise outside the ruins alerted Fate, making her stand with Nyx still in her arms.

She jumped out one of the holes and onto the partially dilapidated roof. She jumped across holes and weak areas to the eastern part of the ruins, and that's where she found them.

There was a large group of what appeared to be goblins making their way to the ruined castle. They were all small, only 4 feet tall at most. They had green skin, ragged teeth, and long noses. They each carried either a broken steel weapon with a lot of rust or a wooden club.

'Another stereotypical fantasy creature,' Fate thought.

There were about 50 in total. Fate could see that they had about ten that were mounted on the backs of large wolves. One, which Fate assumed was the leader had leather and steel armor and carried a spiky club while most of the rest only wore leather armor or loin clothes. Fate also saw that they had ten archers as well.

Fate could think of a couple of possibilities of why they were there. One; they wanted to use the ruins as a base. Two; they're had been some kind of absence of hunting deer in the forest do to Fate, and the goblins had come to kill her or drive her away. Either way, they didn't look like they were ready to share the castle.

As Fate stood over the east entrance to the castle, the goblins' yellow eyes all locked onto her. They started growling to one another. Fate knew that they were communicating. However, seeing her beautiful face, despite her undeveloped body, made some of the goblins start drooling.

"How disgusting," Fate said to herself, "Sorry boys, this isn't Goblin S!@¥€£. I don't know if any of you understand me, but if you do, this place is my territory. If you don't want to die, then leave this place."

There was a pause of silence that made the air almost awkward. But that was short-lived as the goblins roared angrily and charged at her.

"So you can understand me, but you choose not to care. Oh well." She sets her slime down, "Nyx, you'll stay on the wall and throw rocks at the archers and mounted riders. Throw them with just as much force as you attacked me with a couple days ago, and you should kill them. Once you're done with them, help me deal with the stragglers. Got it?" Nyx bobbed up and down, "Alright, let's go!"

Fate hopped of the roof and accelerated towards the goblins. She didn't use her power as she didn't want to collapse in the middle of the fight. She was only using her natural strength, speed, and reflexes, and that's how she wanted to do this. She wanted to test her natural strength against a monster that possessed mana. It would help her get an idea about where she stood on the power scale.

The first goblin came at her, brandishing a club. Fate smiled, and slashed into its face with her claws, killing it instantly. Two more came from her sides, both wielding clubs as well. Apparently, they still wanted to take her alive despite being angered by her words.

Fate wasn't about to let that happen. She spun around like a top, with her claws out, slashing the necks of the attacking goblins. Two mounted goblins tried rushing her only to be struck in the head with rocks and die. Nyx wanted to take out the archers first, but the goblin riders were rushing towards Fate.

Fate looked back at Nyx and gave the slime an appreciating nod and attacked her next goblin… only to be struck in the arm by an arrow. She winced in pain and glared at the archer goblins. She realized that she had to take them out first.

"Nyx, cover me!" Fate shouted as she rushed the archers.

As Fate attacked, other goblins tried to stop her, but were taken out by Nyx's rock throwing. After weaving to avoid some of their arrows, Fate arrived in front of them and immediately tore into them. By the end of her rampage, her skin and fur was stained with blood. Luckily, while she was killing the archers, Nyx had also managed to take out the rest of the riders.

Now, there were only twenty five goblins left, all of which were cowering in fear of Fate and Nyx. Fate smiled, seemingly instinctively, seeing their fear. And a few minutes of carnage later, the group of goblins had been entirely wiped out. Fate now stood over the mass of corpses covered in smelly, red blood.

"I always hated this. Even if I wash it off me, there's no way to get this disgusting smell off me unless I have some soap." Suddenly, Nyx approached her from behind, and latched onto her and began covering her body in its slime, "Hey! What the hell are you doing?! Get off of me! Whoa! Watch where you're putting your slime, idiot!"

However, contrary to Fates expectations, Nyx wasn't trying to eat her, but drink the blood the covered her. After a few minutes of Nyx's squirming across her body, Fate was clean from head to toe. It almost looked like she devoured any dirt and grin as well. Fate's body was cleaner than it had ever been.

"Holy shit. This is great. Thanks, Nyx," she said as she squatted down and patted her pet slime.

It seemed happy with Fate's praise and went on to devour the bodies of the goblins and wolf mounts as well, leaving only their clothing and weapons behind. She was surprised at how hungry her little pet was, and even more so when Nyx began to glow with an eerie purple light.

Thirty seconds later, the light faded, a though minuscule, Fate could see that her pet had changed. She had grown a bit larger, and she was also a even darker shade of black than before.

"What just happened? Are you alright Nyx?" The slime bobbed up and down in response, "Well, if you're not feeling bad, I guess it isn't a problem. Oh well."

Fate was a bit exhausted after that fight. That had been her first fight without using that power, and she was even more impressed with her body than she was before. Curling up with her pet, she looked forward to exploring more of this world as she dozed off.
