Chapter Three

Luna fondled with the hem of her dress as she stood in front of everyone, waiting for her husband to be. It seemed like an eternity, the people were grumbling inwardly as they waited for the groom. None of them would have come to the wedding, but they were all forced to come, Luna was sure about that.

After waiting for so long, the groom finally came. He earned gasps from the people as he arrogantly walked over to the Queen and King.

"Where's the bride?" He asked in a loud voice, Luna was shocked and at the same time angry at how he spoke to her parents, she wished she could slap his arrogance from him.

"There at the-" Without even waiting for King Ezell to finish his statement, the Devil walked away as he began to approach Luna. Luna's heart was beating rapidly.

"Wife," She heard him say, Luna wasn't sure of what he was doing, she wished she had never agreed to the marriage, she wished she were contented with her little study, all she wished for now, was to reverse the time.

The wedding was a boring one, that was to her because she spent her time stealing glances at the groom. She wondered if all monsters were always handsome, although Luna hadn't seen many men, but the ones she had seen could never be compared to her husband to be.

It was time for the couples to exchange vows, Luna was feeling nervous. She had attended several wedding occasions with her family, and she knew the vows.

"I Luna, the second princess of Elcasor, vow to be submissive to…" She stopped as she didn't know what to call him, she wasn't told of his name. "What's your name?" She asked in loud whispers.

"Damien," He replied, and she continued with her vow.

"I Luna, the second princess of Elcasor, vow to be submissive to Lord Damien of Golgotha, I promise to be by your side, during hard times. I vow never to go against your words, I shall be obedient to you and will never complain in our love life, if I go against any of these, do to me as you please," She said, she had mumbled the word 'Love Life' because she didn't love him.

It was time for the Devil to say his vow, Luna shut her eyes tightly. She wasn't ready to see the mocking faces of the people if the Devil failed to say his vows. Was there any need for the vows since he was going to kill her on the ninth day of their marriage? She was about to ask him not to say his vows when he suddenly started speaking.

"I Damien," He began, slowly, Luna opened her eyes and gawked at him. Then he continued, "I give you my word today, that I shall be by your side till eternity, I shall not let any harm come to you as long as I am. I vow to keep alive and safe from all enemies, I vow never to force you to do anything against your wish, and I promise to be with you until eternity," He said, the hall was silent, Luna was shocked as tears trailed down her face.

She refused to believe that what he was saying was true, everyone knew he always killed his wives on the ninth day of their marriage, and she was not exempted. The same vow he had made to her, was what he made to the others. Maybe this was her fate, to die in the hands of a Devil.

After what seemed like years, the wedding came to an end, and it was time for the newlyweds to dance. Luna's heart missed a beat when the Devil stretched out his hand to her, reluctantly, she took it. No matter how she tried to force a smile at him, she ended up failing.

"You can dance without a smile, can't you?" The Devil asked, Luna cleared her throat and nodded her head. She could hear the whispers from people as she danced with the Devil, Luna felt like crying at that moment.

Accidentally, she stepped on the devil's feet, strickened with fear, she tried to steal a glance at him to see his reaction, but unfortunately for her, the Devil was staring at her. Their eyes met and Luna couldn't help but be fascinated by his smoke eyes, this aroused more suspicion in her. The Devil frowned and she quickly averted her gaze.

"I'm sorry," She said and separated her hands from his, luckily for her, the song had ended. She quickly walked away without saying anything. It was final finally time for her to go to the land of the demons, she was shivering in fear as she thought of what might be waiting for her there.

Her mind was in chaos, all her head could imagine was a place full of bones and skeletons of humans he had killed. She thought hard about how she could cancel the marriage to let Maia go instead, but it was not possible as she had already been married to the Devil.

"I wish Maia had gone instead of you," Adler murmured, Luna was surprised at his words, he hardly spoke to her, so why should he care about her now?

"Adler!" The queen didn't look happy at what he said, she turned to me with a hateful glare.

"The little boy said his mind, so I see no reason why you should glare at my wife like that," The Devil said, Luna froze when she heard what he said, this was the first time someone stood up for her.

The queen was always assaulting her, nobody said anything, not even the king. But this strange monster had stood up for her.

"This is our family-" The Devil was suddenly in front of the queen, holding a dagger at her neck, how did he suddenly get in front of the Queen? The queen looked like someone who was about to pass out. Blood was flowing from her neck as the devil held the dagger at her neck.

"One more word, you'd find yourself in hell," the Devil warned, the queen was shivering hard, King Ezell couldn't say anything for fear of angering the Devil more.

"She might die if you don't take the dagger away," Luna said, she hoped he would listen to her and take the dagger away from the queen, who was bleeding profusely.

Luna was confused, why was the queen bleeding? It was not as if the Devil slit her throat, he was only holding the dagger on her neck. How sharp was the dagger? Or was it some kind of dagger that was made from hell?

Fortunately for the entire family, he moved the dagger from her neck.

"Let's go home," He said and walked away, he had not taken five steps when he suddenly turned back, he walked up to the family.

"Where's Maia?" He asked, the family were silent as they wondered why he was suddenly asking of Maia. "I'll ask again, where is-" He was interrupted by Adler.

"Why's everyone keeping quiet? He only asked for Maia and nothing else" Adler said, sounding irritated by how the family was acting. "Maia is right behind the King, I don't understand why she's hiding, the wedding is over, and the bride has been taken away, come out Maia," He said, there was a little smile on the Devil's face as he watched the brave boy.

Fearfully, Maia came out of the king's back, "I am Maia," She stammered, the Devil stared at her for a second and averted his gaze to Luna, then to Maia.

"Not my type of lady, I'm satisfied with my chosen bride," The Devil retorted and walked away with his bride behind him. The royal family breathed a sigh of relief when the newlyweds drove away in a carriage.
