This Isn't Goodbye

#Chapter1

Prologue

Dr Jeremy walked into his office after working for two hours in the emergency room, he was so tired and he removed his lab coat and hanged it on the hanger, he dropped his stethoscope on the table and sat down, no matter how tired he is, he was glad that the surgery was a success. He pictured how happy the wife will be when she will be told that her husband surgery was a success, he smiled at that, he really love his work, he had wanted to be an engineer but when he was ten, his grandmother had been so sick and was rushed to the hospital. She had died not because her sickness was incurable but because the doctor in charge had no idea on what he was doing, he had vowed from then on to be a good doctor and to be knowledgeable about any patients sickness because he do not want another kid to experience the loss he felt when his grandmother died and all thanks to the Almighty he is living up to that.

He sighed and closed his eyes to rest and just then there was a knock on the door and opened his eyes, /"come in/" he said and sat up from the chair, the door was pushed open and a nurse entered.

/"Dr Campbell, the patient that assigned herself to you is here now, apparently she fainted again,/" she said and Jeremy stood up immediately, he grabbed his stethoscope and his lap coat.

/"Let's go/" he said and walked out the door followed by the nurse.

They approached a room.

/"In here doctor/" she said and pushed the door opened and entered while Jeremy followed suit, he walked in to see a beautiful lady lying on the bed, she looked so weak and pale and one could see that she is a beauty, he was shocked, why does she look like...

/"Trixie?/" He asked and the nurse looked at him.

/"You know her doctor?/" She asked and he nodded, of cause he knows her, how can he not? One doesn't forget their first love, he walked up to her and touched her forehead, it was warm.

/"Who brought her in?/" He asked the nurse.

/"Her friend, doctor/" she answered.

/"Who was her formal doctor?/" He asked.

/"Doctor Bush/" she answered and he nodded, he looked at the young lady lying on the bed and still could not believe it was here, how long, how long had he missed her? How long had he searched for her? And here she is in the hospital he works as his patient, no one can describe the joy he felt, he looked at her again, she looked so pale like she was in pain, he sighed, he do not care what her sickness is, whatever it is, he will do his best to make her feel better and perhaps, they can finally start on their love journey. He turned to the nurse.

/"Let me see her report/" he said and she handed it to him immediately, he opened the file and he saw:

Patient name : Trixie Woolwich.

Age : 26,

Sickness : Leukemia,

Durability : six months.

He froze, leukemia? Why in the world will her sickness be leukemia? He felt his heart missed a beat and his eyes stung, why? And she has only but six months to live? Just why, why didn't he found out earlier? How long will she have been suffering from it for it to be this critical that she has only but six months to live? No he can't take it, he is going to make sure that she survives, he is going to do everything within his power to make sure that she is among the 3% of people that survives leukemia, and that is a promise.

/"Trixie/" she heard in her sleep and smiled, who else will be waiting by her bedside if not her roommate and best friend Kate. Trixie opened her eyes slowly to look at the sweet charming lady beside her, she has short black hair and black eyes, her lips looks sexy as she parted them to reveal nice set of teeth in a beautiful smile, Trixie smiled back to her and then sigh.

/"How are you feeling?/" Kate asked and she nodded, how else can she feel if not the way she has been feeling ever since her sickness kicked off, her father had died of the same sickness and also her grandmother, her mother had realized earlier that she was the one that inherited the sickness from her father and had abandoned her when she was seventeen and only heaven knows how she suffered to graduate from highschool then with no one knowing the challenges she faced after school.

She had left with her little brother living Trixie alone and with an incurable sickness, she had gone to the hospital and they had told her it could be treated then since it was still in its early stage but she couldn't finance it, where was she going to get such amount of money from? She had left the hospital and never returned, she already had it inscribed in her heart and mind that she was going to die like her father and his mother but she had no idea that hers will hit her down so early. The sickness had started with its symptoms four years ago and in that two years she had spent thirty nine months in the hospital and nine at home.

Kate had seen her lying on the street when she was eighteen and had taken her in, caring for her and providing for her needs while Trixie had gotten a job to help with the house expenses, they had both made a lot of savings until her sickness strikes four years ago leaving them feeding from hand to mouth due to the fact that they paid for her hospital bills every month with their savings. Seeing the way Kate has been spending all her life savings on her, Trixie had sometimes prayed to die but every time she got hospitalized, she always end up waking up and Kate refused to abandon her, just what did she do to get such a friend who is not a sister but was like a sister and a mother?

/"Do you like the new doctor?/" Kate asked.

/"You later changed him?/" Trixie asked and Kate understood her questions and nodded.

/"Of cause, how dare he diagnose you that you have only but six months to live? Is he okay?/" She asked and Trixie smiled weakly.

/"He is doing his job and he knows best/" she said and Kate humphed, Kate is twenty eight and an orphan but she looks twenty four due to how she cherished herself.

/"I don't care if his doing his job, all he need to do was treat you as we were paying him, he has no right to tell you how long you will live/" she insisted and Trixie sighed, that is Kate for you, when she needs hope on something and you said otherwise, she will condemn you that you know nothing and continue with her hope even if she knew you were right, she will still not believe you.

The door was pushed open and a man entered, he has a curly blonde hair, a nice sapphire blue eyes with nice thin lips, he was wearing a long white coat with a stethoscope around his neck, on seeing she was awake he revealed a nice warming smile. Trixie furrowed her brows, why does he look so familiar? She thought.

/"How are you Trixie/" he asked and even if she can't remember him with the extra beauty on his face, she can never forget his voice, how long has it been now? It should be eight years now, eight years and three months since she last saw him.

/"Jeremy/" she said with a beautiful smile, so she later got to see him again in this life time? She thought.

Jeremy smiled and he couldn't understand the butterflies in his stomach just because she remembered his name, he had thought he would have to explain himself for her to remember but looks like luck is on his side, she not only remembered him but also his name, he felt like he was walking in the clouds, /"guess I'm not the only one that remembered you,/" he walked closer to her and she smiled.

/"One don't forget their old classmate so easily,/" she informed and he nodded.

/"You guys know each other?/" Kate asked and Trixie nodded.

/"Yes, Jeremy was my classmate in high school, the bookworm in the class, you never see him without a book neither do you ever see him less busy, he was either rushing to the lab or had an external exam to take, which kind of made him boring then but still he got a lot of admirers, he was, let me say, every girls most wanted, but he hardly looks at girls to the extent he was labelled Mr no girlfriend,/" Trixie explained making smile with the flashbacks,, he had no idea she remembered that much of him, wait she said every girl? Does that mean she was among? Thinking to that, happiness surged into his heart, heaven really loves him.

/"That's great, I assigned you to a new doctor and he ended up being an old classmate, isn't that amazing?/" Kate jubilates.

/"Oh please/" Trixie smiled.

/"Now Trixie, how are you feeling?/" Jeremy switched to her health.

/"I'm okay./"

/"That's good, I have your record with me, we were able to start from where Doctor Bush stopped and tried a new medication on you, hopefully you won't have to visit us for some time but do turn up once a week to have a full checkup and so that we can also monitor the sickness./"

/"Jeremy, can I call you that?/" Kate asked.

/"Of course, I believe you are her guardian?/" He asked.

/"Yes./"

/"Kate is a friend like a sister, she holds most of the things about me/" Trixie said and Jeremy nodded.

/"Yes Miss Kate, you wanted to say something?/" He asked.

/"Yes, the previous doctor said she has only but six months to live, it's not true right?/" She asked and Jeremy sighed.

/"Well Miss Kate, for him to say that and also write it down means it's possible and again the sickness has lasted a long time in her body and also her blood, but we are going to do our best to know if we can change fate/" he answered but Kate had lost her spirit and so she just nodded. Trixie looked at her and reached out her hand to hold hers as a sign of comfort before turning to Jeremy.

/"Thank you Jeremy, we will appreciate all your effort/" she smiled and he nodded, during the time she was asleep, he had undergone a test with her blood and the sickness was already too deep in her blood but that was not going to make him give up, if he can't do it, then he will use his connections, he has to get her better, he has to.

/"Okay then, I believe you will be leaving today, so please take care of yourself, don't expose yourself to cold and don't stress too much/" he cautioned.

Trixie nodded softly, /"thank you/" she said and he nodded before turning and leaving the room.
