A normal patrol on Earth turns into a new adventure as Ragnar the Fearless faces new dangers in the shape of the Waves of Calamity.
"Hey Arci, how is that scan going?" Ragnar asked while getting his large battle axe on his shoulder.
"It's almost complete, just need to find the last energy signature and I can fix the shard," Arci replied with a spin of her shell. The two of them were walking through the old streets of Washington DC, looking for entertainment while the Last City deals with politics and that mumbo-jumbo Ragnar didn't bother to learn.
"I just wish there were more Hive out here, the Fallen have become boring and the Red Legion has become almost non-existent." Ragnar sighed as his hand gripped the axe tighter, itching for some kind of fight.
Arci looked at him and sighed, "You know that the armor you wear is infamous among the enemies of humanity, even some Caiatl's commanders are scared to even approach you!"
"Yeah yeah, I have heard that so many times that it has become tiring. *sigh* How about we go back to the Tower and see if some jobs are available." Ragnar then turned around and started walking back toward the clearing outside the city ruins.
"Hold on now, I still need to find the last node and then I can fix that shard problem of yours." Arci stopped in front of him and looked at his helmet's eyes.
Ragnar looked at her for a bit before shrugging and looking around the abandoned city, searching for something of interest.
Arci looked at him for a second, understanding the boredom of having to do nothing.
"Okay, okay we will go back to the To-" before stopping and looking at the recognizable shape of the White House.
Ragnar looked at her, waiting for an answer to the sudden silence. The sudden flash of light from her optic and the entrance to the White House was all he needed, taking her into his hands and getting his axe ready.
Arci quickly transmatted into his suit to hide from possible harm.
The silence following that was heavy, bringing tension into his mind and body, making his body full of adrenaline, expecting a battle to ensue. "Arci, I need you to scan the area, fast."
The next few minutes of running to the White House went by as a blur to the active mind of Ragnar. Listening to the instructions of Arci, he made it to a library of sorts. The library was vast with large shelves, possibly containing books from the Golden Age or earlier.
"Arci, send out a beacon to the Vanguard, tell them we have possibly discovered a vast amount of history." With that Arci appeared and scanned the location, looking for a vantage point for the beacon. During that, Ragnar took out a scanner that he had made when looking for "light nodes". The scanner was built on a Glock frame he had found once, deciding that the frame was big enough for the bulky scanner it would become.
The next hour comprised of finding the node Arci had sensed. While Ragnar was searching, Arci found a good place on the roof for the beacon. Placing it down and activating it, it gave out a long beep before turning into short, rhythmic beeps.
(Get back Arci, I have found it.) with that message, she turned back and made her way back to Ragnar, who was waiting and looking at a book that was labeled "The Record of the Four Holy Weapons". Looking confused even when her optic can't display it.
"Why is the light node a book?" Arci looked at Ragnar with confusion and wonder at such an old-looking book. "I do not know why, but it has led me here to this book," he looked at it and sighed: "so I shall read what is in here."
As he opened the book the first thing that popped up was a picture of a shield and a short description.
"For the Shield is the protector of the kingdom, whenever there are the Waves of Calamity, a shield is brought to protect the people.
The Shield Hero's rising will begin with you."
Silence filled the room as Ragnar looked at Arci, confirming the confusion they both have. "This book seems more of a fairytale than a light node, but there might also be a secret message here that might lead us to it." He then closed the book.
About to ask Arci to store it away for later study, the book forced itself open to reveal a shining white light that momentarily blinded him.
"What the hell!" he shouted, as Arci was grabbed by Ragnar and held close to his body to protect his source of immortality.
The light beamed stronger, swallowing the surrounding area in light that can be compared to the Light of the Traveler.
