The Reverie

The Reverie is a world between worlds. A connecting world if you will. It was a magical place that could lead to the salvation or destruction of more than one world. A young man running from slavers was captured and thrown into a portal, follow his journey as he becomes a Lord of Reverie. This world has game elements but it's not a game world. It will be a fantasy story that focuses on the Citadel and it's expansion instead of just on the protag. No harem or system. Not really a traditional Isekai either, although there is traveling between worlds. (This is a story I'm writing for experience it will definitely not be perfect. I'm a new writer so please give me lots of feedback, but try to be nice! This Synopsis was written in haste and will be updated later. It will follow the protag as he becomes a lord of reverie and must continuously progress if he doesn't want to die. He will have the chance to save and destroy worlds. Including his own.)

The Reverie

The Reverie.

The Reverie was an amalgamation of concepts that shouldn't work but were forced together by a power that couldn't be comprehend by mortal men.

It was a world that wasn't a world. A game that wasn't a game. And if you lived here, you'd live a life that wasn't a life.

The center of The Reverie was a shrine. It was a shrine that stretched into the distance and up to the sky.

At the heart of the shrine stood a sculpture of an angel with 16 wings. The angel seemed to be the centerpiece of a fountain, however the fountain was dry.

The ground surrounding the fountain was marked with golden lines that drew in countless shapes and patterns. These were runes.

Suddenly the sound of water could be heard as golden water began to fill the fountain. The golden water filled the pool before pouring out of the angel's eyes and trickling down the runes. The runes began to light up with a golden glow in a beautiful manner.

~Splash~

A young man appeared in the water of the fountain, panting slightly and clearly in shock.

'What the fuck just happened?! Am I dead? Is this the afterlife?' He thought in a panic.

He looked down and noticed that his leg was healed. He was also soaking wet for some reason.

[Welcome to Reverie]

The most notable thing to him wasn't the fact that his leg was healed, it was that he felt full. He hadn't eaten until he was full in... well, ever.

He quickly gathered his thoughts and narrowed it down to two conclusions.

1: He was dead.

Very simple, and very likely. He was thrown into that purple ball of death and died.

2:He'd been transferred somewhere, possibly heaven, and the transfer somehow healed him.

Now that he thought about it, they didn't seem much different.

[Welcome to Reverie.]

The young man finally noticed the words that were floating seemingly within his own consciousness.

What is Reverie, or where was Reverie? He'd never heard of anything named Reverie before. Not that he knew much of the world.

The young man narrowed his eyes and focused on the words.

[Welcome to Reverie]

It read again, but this time it continued.

[You've been summoned to Reverie Plane 637-C. As you are the first person to be summoned to this plane, you'll be given Temporary (Lord) privileges.]

A moment later the young man felt a powerful pressure descend.

The world around him began to change, his vision stretched into the distance and he could see and feel everything.

He could vaguely feel that there were countless buildings and wonders that he could unlock in this world. Currently he only had a small town outside of the shrine unlocked. Everything else was blocked behind a fog. There were massive doors that led to nowhere spread throughout the town and throughout the blocked areas as well.

Each floor had one massive door that you could see from the shrine. On the first floor there were four small doors next to the massive door. He couldn't tell if it was the same on the upper floors, but he assumed so.

Before he could get too lost in his thoughts the words continued.

[Please head to the Town Hall!]

The young man stood up and began to slowly walk around his surroundings. He was in no hurry to head to the town hall.

First he explored the shrine and realized that it led to many different levels, however each floor was blocked besides the first floor. From what he could tell there should be nine levels.

The town was extremely shabby, it looked like it had existed for centuries. Compared to the shrine or the buildings he could see on the upper levels the first floor seemed to be a completely different world. Almost like whoever made Reverie designed a floor exclusively for the poor.

He almost felt at home.

When the young man stepped onto the first floor more notifications appeared.

[Welcome to the Village of Cindere]

[Level One: Village of Cindere]

[Upgradable Buildings: Town Hall, Training Grounds, Farm, Cafeteria, Dorms.]

[Available Buildings: Blacksmith, Tannery, Library.]

He glanced at it casually before continuing to walk towards the town hall. He saw the four main buildings already built on the first floor and a large amount of empty plots for future development.

The inside of the town hall was in surprisingly pristine condition. He'd never be able to guess what the exterior looked like from inside the building.

It was well furnished and everything was well kept. The bottom floor had four doors that were currently blocked off, and the large meeting hall that he was currently in. Besides that there were stairs that led to the second floor.

After checking every door to see if any of them were unlocked, he walked up stairs.

As he did he was greeted by a surprising message.

[Welcome Lord ___]

[...]

[The Lord currently does not have a name. A Lord of Reverie requires a name. How can you not have a name?]

[Do you want to be assigned a name, or would you rather name yourself?]

He felt that the messages this time were much more 'Human'. At the very least up till this point he thought it was something like an object speaking to him and not a person. Maybe a super powerful object, however something without emotions nonetheless.

The young man had almost completely forgotten the fact that he didn't have a name. He'd lived his entire life as an orphan, constantly moving from town to town just trying to stay alive. The closest thing he'd ever had to a name was 'Skipper' that one innkeeper used to call him because of the way he walked.

'Hmm, I have no idea what a good name would be…'

The young man had a very interesting feeling. It would be nice to have a name of his own, but would a name that he gave himself really be the same?

He thought about it for a few minutes before finally deciding to receive the name. Although he didn't know who or what was giving him the name, he figured they'd do a better job than he would himself.

Taking a deep breath he spoke as formally as possible, "Please grant me a name."

[You've received the name 'Isaiah' along with the high expectations that come with it.]

The young man didn't know the meaning behind the name, but he liked the sound of it. He smiled towards the sky in a little show of gratitude.

He then continued up the stairs and down a hall until he entered a room.

[Welcome Lord Isaiah to the Lord's Hall.]

Apparently the Lord had full control of the upstairs and people could only enter with his permission.

Inside the room were two bookshelves, a desk, and a chest. There was also a large window that you could see the town from.

The desk allowed him to bring up a floating blue box of sorts. He realized that he could will his mind to use the floating blue box. With this power he could do things like upgrade the town, designate people to jobs, and all sorts of other things that he didn't go into at the moment. It also had a bunch of information about what to do and what was expected of him.

He then walked over to the bookshelf and opened one of the books. He'd never had the opportunity to learn to read but apparently The Reverie had thought that through because when he opened the first book he receive another message. A rather snarky one at that.

[The Receive has blessed the Lord with the amazing ability to read.]

However before he went to read the books he realized something.

"How could I understand those messages without being able to read?"

He didn't realize it until now but he'd been naturally 'reading' the floating symbols in his mind and instantly understanding it. However this time The Reverie didn't respond.

Most of these books were about what a Lord could do and what was to be expected out of a lord.

By the time he was done the sun had set, rose, and set again. He'd barely even read half of the books but he couldn't just sit there and read forever. He decided he'd come back to them later.

He walked over to the chest before opening it and grinning like an idiot.

[You've received 10 (Combat) Free summons.]

[You've received 1 (Combat) Premium Summon.]

[You've received 10 (Lifestyle) Free Summons.]

[You've Received 1 (Lifestyle) Premium Summon.]

[You've Received 1 Lord Talent Draw.]

Isaiah glanced at the items and read there descriptions and couldn't stop himself from grinning.

'Whelp, I guess it's time to begin!'

First of all, if you're reading this thank you! I'm impressed you made it this far. Thank you. (The true note is below)

Two chapters in and I'm already messing up lol. I was proof reading the part where he read the books and realized as a poor orphan who was constantly fleeing he wouldn't be able to read. So I added that The Reverie granted him the ability to read, convenient! However then how did he understand all of the floating messages? We're just going to say that the text sent by The Reverie is directly translated into something understandable, even if you can't read.
