Chapter 7

Gene led me to his room on the second floor. He sighed in relief once we were both inside.

"You could have messaged me before coming," he said.

"I wanted to surprise you," I replied.

"You sure surprised me alright."

"Gene, your family moved out of town?"

"Yeah. I decided to stay behind. They let me stay here with my uncle and aunt." He stood up. "Would you like some tea?"

"Tea would be great."

He left me alone in his room to go prepare some tea.

Must...resist...urge...to snoop...around...!!

My eyes wandered around. There was a pile of comic books on the side. His videogame cases were neatly arranged in his bookshelf filled with horror novels and school textbooks.

My gaze landed on the closet. It was screaming to be opened. My hand slowly reached out for the handle.

"What are you doing?" Gene was back in the room.

"I just wanted to see what was inside." I smiled innocently.
