Chapter 24

The next day, Gene and I walked home together after class ended.

"Are you dropping by the cafe today?" he asked when he noticed me walking the same direction as he was.

"I want to talk to Mr. Shark."

He frowned.

"I'm just going to talk to him and ask. That's it."

"Please think about what I said, Beatrice."

"Yeah. I did think about it, but I have this card. I at least want to know what it means to have this."

He sighed. "Alright."

We continued walking towards Aqua Chrysalis, where Prof. Dog was busy feeding his canine buddies. His tail wagged when he saw me.

"Miss Beatrice! Have you decided to come live with us?"

"Not yet. I'm here to see Mr. Shark."

"Oh. Such luck! He's upstairs."

I braced myself. Gene followed quietly behind me as we walked up the staircase. I knocked on the door. "Mr. Shark?"

Butterfly opened the door. "Come in."

I was distracted by the ferns and large aquariums filled with sharks. The room was a bit dim that I nearly tripped over a wire.
